Progress Report of Children Learning Community on October 2012

Dearest friends,

Thank you very much for all of your attention and support to the Children Learning Community so the activities could run well in October 2012.

In early October, exactly on Saturday, Oct 6th, 2012, we had visitors, friends of alumna St. Ursula high school ’88. They visited and talked to know our and the people of Cakung’s activities. They have plan to hold some collaboration activities.

The children showed their creation, such as life-skill creation and salted egg which they make regularly every week. After the guests visited the Cakung people’s farm area, the children performed their dance learning Rampak Gendang and playing some songs by recorder instrument.

Thank you very much to the friends of Alumna St. Ursula High School who would like to visit us and bring some biscuits. We hope our collaboration could run sustainly.

In mid-October 2012, we have donation to provide the learning equipments from Mr.Mehdi and Mrs.Margareth Laftavi. To increase the spirit of the children’s learning, we bought multi function equipments of tape recorder-DVD player-radio. Now, children could enjoy some CD and English lesson’s cassettes which kept for a long time in the library.

Thank you very much for Laftavi family’s attention and support which meant so much for improving the children’s ability and knowledge. We hope our collaboration could run well and sustain.

Also in Mid-October 2012, we visited Ms. Eka who was in hospital. Ms. Eka is one of our faithful friends since Komunitas Anak Cakung was developing. She is one of our donor who sometime accompany her Marsudirini Elementary students to Cakung children community.

We pray for Ms. Eka for recovering and starting her teaching activities after long leave til mid-November 2012.

As we have October 2012’s schedule to raise fund for the operational activities of Children Learning Community, we followed the bazaar at Salvator Church, Slipi, West Jakarta. The bazaar conducted by the Young Catholics Club for raising fund for their activities from the week III of October 2012 until the end of November 2012. We have some space to sell our product and children’s creation.

It supports us in raising fund and promoting the children’s creation. During October 2012, our famous products are salted egg, beats creation, and some knitting’s creation.

We were glad and thankful to Ms. Lucy Wenehen and the board for their attention and support. May our collaboration run well and sustain.

In mid-September 2012, we found the good location for the permanent learning activities for the children. It is a small house in the 400m2 land near the old location of the learning tent and not so far from the rent house for learning. It is 810 million rupiahs which is so expensive for us who still have less savings. We need the permanent place for the learning activities of the children, while at the end of November we have to rent another house because the owner intend to sell it.

We plan to have the permanent place for learning and for the long term projection to legalize it as a foundation.

We hope you all understand the situation and would like to support us.


Alternative Learning Activities

Now, the learning activities at Cakung are four days in a week. Every Tuesday and Thursday, we accompany the children at Cakung farm area, while every Friday and Saturday at the Learning House.

The learning activities at Muara Baru is every Sunday.


a. Cakung Children Community


In October 2012, the learning activities could run well.


The facilitating of learning are done by the young facilitators who are projected to accompany children to learn. The young facilitators are the children participants at the Learning House and now learn to teach the younger children.

As human being who have moral responsibility, in the early stage, children learn to understand their task and the purpose of their life by developing the habit of cooperation, tolerance, serving and caring every God’s creature well.

Every Friday, the reading library book program is for the children of the 2nd and 3rd categories. After the activities, we give them task according to the ability of the category. For the children of the 2nd category, after reading books, usually the children retold the story, and after that, we make some sentences based on their reading and read off so the children could learn to write. While for the children of the 3rd category, they learn to write in narrative way.

The life-skill activity is regularly done every Tuesday, on the same day of the library administrative task. This activity is in different level from the activities every Friday because the products are for the income accelerating program for the children savings. b. Muara Baru Community

In October 2012, the learning activity run well, accompanied by two facilitators.

Before learning, the children clean the house well. We divide the children in two groups as well as in Cakung farm area. While we provide some equipments according to their needs and they keep it at one of the children's home. It is done because there are some activities beside learning activity in it.

At last Sunday of October 2012, after learning, the children accompanied by the facilitators went to the beach at Muara Baru. They enjoyed the togetherness. Although they live near the sea, they seldom went there, moreover no guards.

We thank all the collaborative works between the facilitators, the volunteers, the children and residents of Cakung and Muara Baru, especially to Mrs. Herda, Yana, Indri, Riska, Ms. Uju, Mrs. Mar’ah, and the children coordinator program.


Bibliotheque

In October 2012, the activity was covering on the books supported last month.

Until the end of October 2012, the total of the registrated books in 2012 are 678.

The presentation of the children reading books is every Saturday based on what their read every Friday. Each children should prepare themselves by summarizing their reading and presenting a day after. We hope all children have knowledge by listening and speaking.

Children are giving speech with pictures from the books, when all of the children drink milk before learning. We have many encyclopedia so during this month, the children still read encyclopedia.

Nutrition Improvement Program for Children


In October 2012, the nutrition improvement activities run well.

Besides drinking milk, the healthy menu for this month was hard-boiled egg, watermelon, bread with chocolate jam, and steamed corn.

The variety of healthy menu also based on the beginning of the rainy season which there are more fruits harvest, especially watermelon in Cakung. The team chose it as the healthy menu on the 2nd Saturday of October 2012.

We thank the team who organised it and to the mothers who had prepared the menu for October 2012.


Scholarship Program

In this month, the needs of some learning materials for the elementary and university students increased. They were such as student books and copy learning materials. Beside that, a university student need accommodation during her time at campus, where she has to prepare to go to campus in the early morning before the traffic jam and go home in the evening in the traffic jam condition as well.

Thank you very much to our friends who would like to support the program regularly. We hope the collaboration will continue well and worthy for the children future.

November 2012 Activity Plan :

1. Finding the rent house for the children learning.
2. Fund raising by marketing the community production.
3. Providing the needs of learning activities, bibliotheque, nourishment improvement, and scholarship programs.
4. Regular learning activities on the 3rd quarter (September – early December 2012).

Every end of Saturday of the month, we hold the meeting cooperation organization which involved the women of Cakung community. In October 2012, we have 1 new participant and now the total is 14. In cooperation, we could buy share and borrow it for every parents need, including the household and running their business.

In this month, we voted the new team. Mrs. Mar’ah as the coordinator, Mrs. Erni as the treasurer, while the previous team, Mrs. Sutini and Mrs. Siti as the cash box and the key holders, so we hope the process of learning could run well, assisted by the previous team.

Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to all friends who sustainably supporting us in their prayers, donations, materials and time. Without your support, our activities would not be realized.

Thanks for the biscuits from Mrs. Widya Yohanes and friends of alumna St. Ursula High School, tape recorder-DVD player-radio from Mr.Mehdi and Mrs.Margareth Laftavi, also for some secondhand clothes from Sr. Annunciata, OSU.

Laporan Kegiatan Komunitas Anak Belajar pada Oktober 2012

Salam jumpa teman-teman yang baik,

Sepanjang Oktober ini, kegiatan belajar Komunitas Anak Belajar dapat berjalan dengan baik.

Pada awal Oktober, tepatnya Sabtu, 6 Oktober 2012, kami kedatangan tamu, kakak-kakak Alumni SMA St. Ursula tahun ’88. Kakak-kakak berkunjung melihat-lihat dan berbincang-bincang dengan kami untuk mengetahui kegiatan kami dan kegiatan warga Cakung. Kakak-kakak berencana untuk mengadakan kegiatan yang melibatkan Komunitas Anak Belajar.

Anak-anak menunjukkan hasil karya mereka, baik karya ketrampilan maupun produksi telur asin yang mulai rutin mereka buat setiap minggu. Setelah melihat-lihat dan berkunjung ke kebun warga, anak-anak menampilkan hasil belajar mereka menari Rampak Gendang dan memainkan recorder dari beberapa lagu yang mereka pelajari.

Terimakasih banyak pada Kakak-kakak Alumni SMA St. Ursula yang berkenan hadir berkunjung dan membawakan biscuit untuk anak-anak. Semoga kerjasama yang telah dijalin dapat terus berlanjut dengan baik.

Pada pertengahan Oktober 2012, kami mendapat bantuan dana untuk pembelian perlengkapan belajar anak dari Bapak Mehdi dan Ibu Margareth Laftavi, maka pada bulan ini semangat belajar anak-anak semakin bertambah dengan adanya tape recorder, yang dilengkapi DVD player dan radio. Sekarang anak-anak bisa menikmati sumbangan CD dan kaset belajar bahasa Inggris yang selama ini tersimpan lama dalam lemari perpustakaan.

Terimakasih banyak atas perhatian dan bantuan dari keluarga Laftavi yang sangat berguna untuk peningkatan kemampuan dan pengetahuan anak-anak. Semoga kerjasama yang telah dijalin dengan baik ini dapat terus berlanjut.

Pada pertengahan Oktober 2012, kami mengunjungi Kak Eka yang menderita sakit dirawat di rumah sakit. Kak Eka merupakan sahabat setia kami saat berdirinya Komunitas Anak Cakung dan seorang donatur yang setia berkunjung dan membawa murid-muridnya dari SD Marsudirini Matraman untuk berkenalan dengan anak-anak Cakung.

Kami berdoa agar Kak Eka dapat segera pulih dan memulai aktifitasnya mengajar murid-muridnya setelah cuti panjang dan masuk kembali pada pertengahan November nanti.

Seperti yang kami harapkan dalam rencana kegiatan di bulan Oktober 2012 agar dapat menggalang dana untuk operasional kegiatan pendidikan alternative Komunitas Anak Belajar, pada minggu III Oktober 2012 hingga akhir November 2012, kami diajak kelompok muda Katholik paroki Salvator, Slipi, Jakarta Barat, untuk ikut serta dalam kegiatan bazaar yang diadakan dalam rangka menggalang dana untuk kegiatan mereka. Kegiatan diadakan setiap Minggu pagi hingga siang hari. Kami mendapatkan tempat untuk menjual hasil karya anak-anak dan warga.

Kegiatan ini tidak hanya membantu dalam mengumpulkan dana untuk kegiatan belajar dan pemenuhan pembiayaan tempat belajar, tapi juga dalam promosi hasil karya anak-anak. Selama bazaar bulan Oktober ini, karya andalan yang terjual habis dan diminati para pembeli adalah telur asin dan kreasi manik-manik serta beberapa kreasi rajutan.

Kami senang dan berterimakasih pada Kak Lucy Wenehen dan panitia kegiatan paroki Salvator, Slipi, Jakarta Barat atas perhatian dan bantuannya. Semoga kerjasama yang telah dijalin dapat terus berlanjut dengan baik.

Pada pertengahan September, kami menemukan lahan yang kami rasakan cukup memadai untuk tempat kegiatan belajar anak-anak. Rumah mungil di atas lahan seluas 400 m2 cukup dekat dengan tempat tinggal anak-anak, dan tidak begitu jauh dari rumah kegiatan Komunitas Anak Belajar, namun biaya yang ditawarkan pemilik cukup besar untuk kami yang baru memiliki tabungan sedikit. Tanah dan bangunan dengan sertifikat hak milik dihargai sebesar 810 juta rupiah. Saat ini, kami membutuhkan tempat tetap untuk kelangsungan kegiatan pendidikan anak. Sementara ini, kontrakan rumah kegiatan Komunitas Anak Belajar berakhir pada akhir November 2012. Kami sudah harus pindah dari tempat belajar karena akan dijual oleh pemiliknya.

Tempat tetap kami butuhkan untuk memudahkan kami berkegiatan bersama anak-anak. Sementara untuk tujuan jangka panjang, bila sudah memiliki domisili tetap, memudahkan kami untuk meresmikan kelompok kami menjadi yayasan.

Saat ini kami masih terus mencari rumah kontrakan yang sesuai untuk kegiatan belajar anak dan tidak jauh dari tempat tinggal mereka.

Kiranya teman-teman memahami keadaan ini dan berkenan membantu.

Kegiatan Belajar Alternatif

Kegiatan belajar di Cakung kini berlangsung selama empat hari dalam seminggu. Setiap hari Selasa dan Kamis kegiatan belajar berlangsung di Cakung sawah, sedangkan setiap Jumat dan Sabtu, kegiatan belajar berlangsung di rumah kegiatan Komunitas Anak Belajar.

Sementara di Muara Baru, kegiatan belajar berlangsung setiap hari Minggu.


a. Komunitas Anak Cakung

Sepanjang Oktober ini, kegiatan belajar dapat dilakukan dengan baik. Kegiatan belajar rutin dilakukan setiap Selasa dan Kamis di Cakung sawah dan setiap Jumat dan Sabtu di rumah belajar. Setiap hari Minggu, kegiatan belajar diadakan di Muara Baru.

Pendampingan belajar di Cakung sawah dilakukan oleh fasilitator muda, yang siap mendampingi anak-anak belajar setelah selama beberapa tahun sebelumnya menjadi peserta belajar.

Sebagai bagian dari tanggung jawab moral, sejak awal anak-anak belajar memahami tugas dan tujuan hidupnya dengan membiasakan diri melalui belajar bekerja sama, saling membantu dan memelihara, merawat segala sesuatu dengan baik.

Setiap Jumat, kegiatan baca buku perpustakaan wajib dilakukan oleh anak-anak kategori II dan III. Setelah kegiatan, kami beri tugas sesuai dengan kemampuan tiap kategori. Bagi anak-anak kategori II, setelah membaca buku, biasanya anak-anak bercerita hasil bacaannya, kemudian dikte hasil bacaan. Sementara bagi anak-anak kategori III, setelah belajar menulis deskripsi, anak-anak belajar menulis narasi.

Kegiatan ketrampilan rutin dilakukan setiap Selasa disamping kegiatan perpustakaan. Kegiatan ketrampilan yang dilakukan pada hari itu berbeda dengan kegiatan ketrampilan dalam kegiatan belajar setiap Jumat dan Sabtu. Hasil dari kegiatan ketrampilan ini untuk dijual sebagai bagian dari program peningkatan usaha anak dan remaja Komunitas Anak Belajar. Bagi anak-anak yang memiliki hasil ketrampilan yang cukup baik, kami ikut sertakan dalam kegiatan rutin setiap Selasa. Hasil penjualan dibagi untuk modal kegiatan dan kompensasi anak-anak yang dimasukkan dalam tabungan. Hasil karya mereka dapat dilihat dalam blog kami, http://cakungchildrencreation.blogspot.com.


b. Komunitas Muara Baru

Kegiatan belajar berlangsung dengan baik selama bulan Oktober 2012, didampingi oleh dua fasilitator.

Sebelum mulai belajar, tempat belajar dan perlengkapan belajar disiapkan dengan baik oleh anak-anak peserta belajar. Sementara beberapa perlengkapan belajar yang kami sediakan, setelah belajar disimpan di rumah salah seorang anak peserta belajar karena tempat belajar digunakan tidak hanya untuk kegiatan belajar kami, tapi juga untuk beberapa kegiatan warga.

Kegiatan belajar dilakukan dalam dua kelompok, seperti halnya dengan kegiatan belajar di Cakung sawah.

Pada minggu terakhir Oktober 2012, selesai belajar, anak-anak bersama fasilitator bermain di pantai Muara Baru. Mereka gembira menikmati kebersamaan. Walau tinggal dekat laut, mereka sendiri jarang pergi kesana apalagi bila tidak didampingi.

Kami ucapkan terimakasih banyak atas kerjasama para fasilitator, volunteer, anak-anak dan warga Cakung dan Muara Baru, terutama pada Yana, Indri, Riska, Kak Uju, Bu Mar’ah dan anak-anak pengurus program, serta Bu Herda di Muara Baru dan para Ibu warga Cakung.

Perpustakaan

Kegiatan perpustakaan selama bulan Oktober dilakukan dengan penyampulan buku dari buku-buku sumbangan yang kami terima bulan lalu.

Hingga akhir Oktober 2012, jumlah buku perpustakaan yang diregistrasi pada tahun ini ada 678 buah.

Presentasi hasil bacaan masih dilakukan setiap Sabtu dari kegiatan baca buku yang dilakukan pada hari Jumat. Setiap anak belajar mempersiapkan diri dari ringkasan bacaan yang mereka buat. Dengan demikian, semua anak dapat pengetahuan baru, baik sebagai pembicara maupun sebagai pendengar.

Selama anak-anak minum susu sebelum mulai belajar setiap Sabtu, seorang anak dari kategori III presentasi hasil bacaannya, dilampiri gambar-gambar dari buku bacaannya. Mulai banyaknya buku-buku ensiklopedi maka kegiatan wajib baca buku perpustakaan selama bulan ini, masih diarahkan untuk baca buku ensiklopedi.

Kegiatan Peningkatan Gizi Anak

Selama Oktober 2012 ini, kegiatan peningkatan gizi anak berlangsung dengan baik.

Selain minum susu rutin, menu sehat bulan ini adalah telur rebus, semangka, roti dengan selai dan jagung rebus.

Menu yang disiapkan tim pengurus program menyesuaikan dengan kedatangan musim hujan yang disambut oleh musim buah-buahan. Berlimpahnya semangka di wilayah Cakung, membuat tim pengurus memilih menu sehat pada Sabtu II Oktober 2012 makan semangka bersama-sama.

Akhirnya, kami berterimakasih pada koordinator dan tim pengurus program serta para Ibu, yang telah membantu mempersiapkan menu sehat selama bulan Oktober 2012.


Beasiswa

Pada bulan ini, kegiatan beasiswa dilakukan untuk pemenuhan kebutuhan pendidikan anak dari perlengkapan belajar dan pembelian buku pelajaran serta fotokopi bagi anak-anak penerima beasiswa untuk sekolah dasar dan universitas. Selain itu juga, kegiatan beasiswa kami lakukan dengan pemenuhan transport dan konsumsi untuk kuliah anak yang memakan waktu untuk bersiap-siap berangkat pagi hari sebelum mulai padat kendaraan hingga siang atau sore hari pulang kuliah dan tiba di rumah.

Terimakasih kami teman-teman yang berkenan rutin membantu penyelenggaraan program beasiswa ini. Kami berharap kerjasama ini dapat terus berlanjut dan menjadi bekal yang berguna bagi masa depan anak-anak.

Rencana kegiatan di bulan November 2012 ini adalah :

1. Pembiayaan dan pencarian rumah kontrakan untuk rumah belajar Komunitas Anak Belajar.
2. Penggalangan dana melalui penjualan hasil karya ketrampilan.
3. Pemenuhan kebutuhan untuk program kegiatan belajar, perpustakaan, peningkatan gizi anak, dan beasiswa.
4. Kegiatan belajar rutin caturwulan III selama September – awal Desember 2012.

Setiap Sabtu akhir bulan, kegiatan koperasi simpan pinjam diadakan oleh dan untuk warga Cakung. Pada bulan Oktober ini, peserta kegiatan koperasi bertambah satu orang dan kini jumlah seluruh peserta kegiatan koperasi menjadi 14 orang. Peminjaman dana kebutuhan warga Cakung, biasanya untuk pemenuhan kebutuhan rumah tangga, kebutuhan perlengkapan sekolah anak dan modal usaha warga.

Pada bulan ini diadakan pergantian pengurus koperasi. Kini pengurus koperasi yang baru adalah, Bu Mar’ah yang duduk sebagai ketua, Bu Erni yang dipercaya sebagai bendahara, sementara pemegang cash box dan kunci oleh mantan ketua dan bendahara lama, yaitu Bu Siti dan Bu Sutini. Dengan demikian, proses peralihan pengurus diharapkan dapat berjalan dengan baik, dengan masih didampingi pengurus lama yang dipercaya untuk menjadi anggota pemegang cash box dan kunci.

Akhirnya, kami ucapkan banyak terimakasih pada teman-teman yang telah banyak mendukung dalam doa dan dana, tenaga, maupun material untuk terwujudnya program pendidikan alternatif Komunitas Anak Belajar sepanjang bulan ini.

Progress Report Children Learning Community on September 2012

Dear friends,

The Children Learning Community activities run well in September.
We have supported some food stuff packages after Ied celebration, so on the week II of September 2012, we decided to buy trolley to carry it. We need it because of the stony road and it’s hard for car traffic.

On Wednesday, September 19th, 2012, we accompanied the 3 elder people of Cakung who will follow the cataract surgery program at the hospital in Central Jakarta. Although we didn’t support the health development program yet since 2011, we support the 3 people of Cakung because of their eagerness to see their children & grandchildren growing up and work for feeding the big family.

We used some donation from Ms.Paramita Rai and friends to accommodate the health fee for the 3 elder people of Cakung. The surgery will hold after the total of the patient reach 25. The hospital will give free of charge in surgery but we have to pay for the lenses and some medical check up. So, we will give thanks for the willing of the donors’ support and attention.

On Friday, September 21st, 2012, we were visited by Mrs.Gerda Silalahi and her staffs at QBE Pool Insurance. As the social responsibility program of the company for the people, Mrs.Gerda Silalahi and her staffs visit the Learning House of Children Learning Community and support the needs of library and nutrition improvement programs. After introduction each other, the children performed Rampak Gendang dance and singing some songs with recorder. Mrs.Gerda Silalahi and her staffs gave presents for all children. The big presents are including schoolbags, books & stationeries, some stuff for bathing, also milk & biscuit. They provided 2 big sacks of rice and 1 big sack of mungbean. After that, we took some pictures.

We are so grateful for Mrs.Gerda Silalahi & friends’ support and attention. We hope our our collaboration will continue well.

a. Cakung Children Community

The learning evaluation program on the second quarter held on Saturday, September 1st, 2012. We prepared the material of evaluation in August 2012, before the Ied holiday. The facilitator from each category prepared and explained us the questions of the exam.

We evaluate all, including the diligence and the will of the children in following the activities. After the exam, we give them rewards, such as pencils and coloring books for children in the 0 and 1st category, while for the children in the 3rd category, we gave them pencils and pens.

Since August 2012, the total of the children participants were decreasing, but on the week III of September 2012, we have 6 children participants from the neighborhood. Every week after that, some new participants always come. At the end of September 2012, the total of the children participants are 39. At Cakung farm area, the children participants from 7 increase to 12. Their parents are farmers and farm workers.

We give the same curriculum based on the children’s capability. At Cakung farm area, the learning activities are divided in 2 groups, for children who are able to read-write-counting and are unable.

The facilitation of learning are done by the young facilitators who are projected to accompany children to learn. The young facilitators are the children participants at the Learning House and now learn to teach the younger children. The early activities are cleaning the place, brooming, mopping, clipping the children’s nail and washing hands at each children’s hut.

As the human being who have moral responsibility, in the early stage, children learn to understand their task and the purpose of their life by developing the habit of cooperation, tolerance, serving and caring every God’s creature well.

Now, we need a bigger space for activities. The front room have more table. Now, there are 3 long tables for children in the front room, while in another room for the children of the 1st and 2nd categories and have 1 long table. In library room, we don’t need long table for the children of the 3rd category.

The learning tent was demolished, now it is just an empty land and going to develop the mega project. Some pictures where the learning house become the learning tent and demolished are attached. (cakung0912.3 and cakung0912.4).

Since the early September 2012, the reading program for the children of the 3rd category is every Friday, and some children have to present it every Saturday. Each children should prepare themselves by summarizing their reading and presenting a day after.

This activity helps them to speak and express their mind well. Children should give speech with pictures from the books, when all of the children drink milk before learning. This month, the children read encyclopedia. We hope all children have knowledge by listening and speaking.

The life-skill activity is regularly done every Tuesday, at the same day of the library administrative task. This activity is in different level from the activities every Friday because the products are for the income accelerating program for the children savings. b. Muara Baru Community

In this month, the learning activity runs in the week II of September 2012, a week after Ied holiday. The total children were 17, increase from usually 6 – 7 children. Until the end of September, we have 13 children activie participants.

Before learning, the children clean the house well. We divide the children in two groups as well as in Cakung farm area.
We thank all the collaborative works between the facilitators, the volunteers, the children and residents of Cakung and Muara Baru, especially to Mrs. Herda, Yana, Indri, Riska, Lisna, Ms. Uju, and the children coordinator program.


Bibliotheque

In September, the activity started with book registration and list them and then put covers on the books.

On the week III of September 2012, we bought some magazine and life-skill reference books.

On Wednesday, September 19th, 2012, we received many books, such as encyclopedia, map, dictionaries and children reading books from Mrs.Gerda Silalahi on behalf of QBE Pool Insurance, while on Thursday, September 20th, 2012, we continue received book shelves, whiteboards, markers and a set of table and chairs.

We are thankful for Mrs.Gerda Silalahi and QBE Pool Insurance’ support for the children library program. Until the end of September 2012, the total of the registrated books in 2012 are 637.


Nutrition Improvement Program for Children

In September 2012, the nutrition improvement activities run well.

Besides drinking milk, the healthy menu for this month was hard-boiled egg, papaya dices with lemon water, rujak kangkung, and mungbean porridge with steamed banana.

On the 1st Saturday of September 2012, still in Ied season, we provide biscuits and lemonade for children as the substitute of the healthy menu for the early month. We have some biscuits and lemonade supported from some friends. While the facilitator inform after the exam, the children enjoy their meal.

In the middle of this month, we received 3 food stuff packages from Ms.Tuti on behalf of KONTRAS. Thank you very much for the support and attention. We hope our collaboration will continue well.

Besides the children library program provided, Mrs.Gerda Silalahi and QBE Pool Insurance gave some vitamins and honey. We give packages of rice and mungbean for parents, and at the end of September 2012, we cooked the healthy menu, mungbean porridge with steamed banana.

Thank you very much to Mrs.Gerda Silalahi and QBE Pool Insurance for visiting and supporting us.

We thank the team who organised it and to the mothers who had prepared the menu for September 2012.


Scholarship

The need of student books and copy learning materials increased on this month.
We also fulfill the student books for a university student. Because of the learning activity at campus need longer time so we accommodate the travel subsistance for her.
A child who dropped out in the 2nd grade of vocational high school who is regularly accompanying the children, intend to learn computer and at the end of the year, she hopes to follow the equals examination for high school so she could have high school certificate.

Thank you very much to Ms.Arry Fitriana and friends who would like to support the program regularly. We hope the collaboration will continue well and become the worth provide for the children future.


October 2012 Activity Plan

1. To provide plastic cover for library program.
2. To raise fund for a permanent place savings by marketing the community production.
3. Regular learning activities on the 3rd quarter (September – early December 2012).

Every end of Saturday of the month, we hold the meeting of cooperation organization which involved the women of Cakung community. Until now, the participants are 13. In cooperation, we could buy share and borrow it for every parents need, including running their business.

Laporan Kegiatan Komunitas Anak Belajar pada September 2012

Salam jumpa teman-teman yang baik,

Sepanjang September 2012 ini, kegiatan belajar Komunitas Anak Belajar dapat berjalan dengan baik.

Bantuan sembako dan paket lebaran banyak kami terima setelah Lebaran. Untuk itu, pada minggu II September 2012, kami membeli trolley untuk memudahkan dalam pengangkutan barang-barang sumbangan. Seringkali sulit untuk mengangkut barang-barang sumbangan di jalan yang berbatu dan sulit dilalui kendaraan. Belum lagi, jarang ada orang dewasa yang bisa kami minta bantuannya, maka kami putuskan untuk membeli sebuah trolley.

Pada Rabu, 19 September 2012, kami membawa 3 orang tua warga Cakung yang ingin mengikuti kegiatan operasi katarak gratis di sebuah rumah sakit swasta di daerah Jakarta Pusat. Walau program kesehatan sejak 2011 ditiadakan, kegiatan ini kami lakukan bagi 3 orang tua Cakung dengan alasan yang kuat bahwa mereka ingin bisa melihat dan bekerja seperti sedia kala untuk memenuhi kebutuhan keluarga, anak dan cucunya.

Sebagian bantuan dana yang dikumpulkan Kak Paramita Rai bersama teman-temannya, kami gunakan untuk biaya akomodasi pendaftaran dan biaya pemeriksaan. Operasi baru akan dilakukan bila jumlah peserta mencapai 25 orang. Itu pun hanya biaya operasi yang dibebaskan, sedangkan lensa yang akan dipasang, dikenakan biaya tersendiri. Untuk itu, kami ingin mengucapkan banyak terimakasih atas dukungan dan kepercayaan serta kerelaan teman-teman.

Pada Jumat, 21 September 2012, kami kedatangan tamu, Bu Gerda Silalahi dan rekan kerjanya di QBE. Sebagai bentuk tanggung jawab social perusahaannya pada masyarakat, beliau berkunjung ke rumah kegiatan Komunitas Anak Belajar dan membantu untuk memenuhi kebutuhan program perpustakaan dan peningkatan gizi anak. Kami berkenalan dan anak-anak menampilkan kemampuan mereka menari Rampak Gendang dan bernyanyi diiringi suling recorder. Saat berpisah, Bu Gerda dan rekan kerjanya membagikan bingkisan untuk semua anak. Bingkisan berisi tas sekolah, buku dan alat tulis, kebutuhan untuk mandi dan sikat gigi, serta susu dan biscuit. Sedangkan bagi warga, disediakan 2 karung beras dan 1 karung kacang hijau. Setelah pembagian bingkisan, kami berfoto bersama.

Kami sangat berterimakasih atas kepedulian dan bantuan Bu Gerda Silalahi dan rekan-rekan QBE. Terimakasih atas bantuan yang sungguh dibutuhkan oleh anak-anak Cakung. Semoga kerjasama yang telah dijalin dengan baik ini, dapat terus berlanjut.

Pada pertengahan September 2012, kami menemukan lahan yang kami rasakan cukup memadai untuk tempat kegiatan belajar anak-anak. Rumah mungil di atas lahan seluas 400 m2 cukup dekat dengan tempat tinggal anak-anak, dan tidak begitu jauh dari rumah kegiatan Komunitas Anak Belajar, namun biaya yang ditawarkan pemilik cukup besar untuk kami yang baru memiliki tabungan sedikit. Tanah dan bangunan dengan sertifikat hak milik dihargai sebesar 810 juta rupiah. Saat ini, kami membutuhkan tempat tetap untuk kelangsungan kegiatan pendidikan anak. Sementara ini, kontrakan rumah kegiatan Komunitas Anak Belajar tersisa dua bulan lagi. Pada akhir November 2012, kami sudah harus pindah dari tempat belajar karena akan dijual oleh pemiliknya.

Tempat tetap kami butuhkan untuk memudahkan kami berkegiatan bersama anak-anak. Sementara untuk tujuan jangka panjang, bila sudah memiliki domisili tetap, memudahkan kami untuk meresmikan kelompok kami menjadi yayasan.

Kiranya teman-teman memahami keadaan ini dan berkenan membantu.

Kegiatan Belajar Alternatif

Kegiatan belajar di Cakung kini berlangsung selama empat hari dalam seminggu. Setiap hari Selasa dan Kamis kegiatan belajar berlangsung di Cakung sawah, sedangkan setiap Jumat dan Sabtu, kegiatan belajar berlangsung di rumah kegiatan Komunitas Anak Belajar.

Sementara di Muara Baru, kegiatan belajar berlangsung setiap hari Minggu.


a. Komunitas Anak Cakung

Kegiatan evaluasi belajar catur wulan II dapat diselenggarakan dengan baik pada Sabtu, 1 September 2012, walau belum banyak anak hadir setelah libur Lebaran. Materi evaluasi sudah disiapkan sejak Agustus 2012. Masing-masing fasilitator dari setiap kategori mempersiapkannya dan menjelaskan pada sesama fasilitator dua minggu sebelum diadakan evaluasi belajar.

Selesai evaluasi, diumumkan hasilnya, termasuk penilaian ketekunan dan kerajinan anak mengikuti kegiatan belajar. Untuk anak-anak kategori 0 hingga II, disediakan penghargaan berupa pensil dan buku mewarnai, sedangkan untuk anak-anak kategori III diberikan pensil dan pulpen.

Jumlah peserta kegiatan belajar yang menyusut separuhnya sejak awal Agustus digusur, kini bertambah. Pada minggu III September 2012, masuk 3 anak baru yang berasal dari lingkungan sekitar rumah kegiatan, sedangkan pada minggu terakhir September 2012, kami kedatangan 6 peserta baru. Jumlah peserta kegiatan belajar menjadi sekitar 39 anak.

Kegiatan belajar yang berlangsung di rumah kegiatan, mulai terasa sempit. Yang biasanya ruang depan diisi dengan dua meja panjang, kini bertambah satu meja.

Kegiatan belajar dibagi dalam 4 kategori. Anak-anak kategori 0 menempati ruang depan untuk belajar, bagi anak-anak kategori I dan II menempati ruang dalam dengan satu meja panjang, sedangkan anak-anak kategori III menempati ruang perpustakaan.

Lahan tempat belajar anak-anak yang telah digusur, kini sudah rata dengan tanah merah dan akan segera didirikan bangunan baru. Beberapa foto terkini tempat belajar lama anak-anak Cakung kami lampirkan (cakung0912.3 dan cakung0912.4).

Sementara peserta belajar di Cakung sawah, dari sekitar 7 anak yang aktif belajar kini bertambah menjadi 12 anak. Mereka tinggal di lingkungan sekitar sawah, dimana orang tua mereka adalah petani dan buruh tani.

Kegiatan belajar yang dilakukan, sama halnya dengan di rumah kegiatan Komunitas Anak Cakung. Bagi anak-anak Cakung sawah, kegiatan belajar dibagi 2 kelompok, yaitu bagi anak-anak yang sudah pandai baca-tulis-berhitung, dan bagi anak-anak yang belum bisa.

Pendampingan di Cakung sawah dilakukan oleh fasilitator muda, yang siap mendampingi anak-anak belajar setelah selama beberapa tahun sebelumnya menjadi peserta belajar. Kegiatan awal dibuka dengan membersihkan tempat belajar, menyapu, mengepel, kemudian anak-anak gunting kuku bersama dan cuci tangan di rumah masing-masing. Setelah itu, anak-anak berkumpul, dibagikan vitamin, bernyanyi bersama, kemudian mulai kegiatan belajar.

Sebagai bagian dari tanggung jawab moral kita, sejak awal anak-anak belajar memahami tugas dan tujuan hidupnya dengan membiasakan diri melalui belajar bekerja sama, saling membantu dan memelihara, merawat segala sesuatu dengan baik.

Sejak awal September 2012, kegiatan wajib baca buku bagi anak-anak kategori III yang dilakukan setiap Jumat, wajib dipresentasikan setiap Sabtu. Setiap anak mesti mempersiapkan diri dari ringkasan bacaan yang mereka buat untuk ditunjuk presentasi keesokan harinya.

Kegiatan ini membantu membiasakan anak berbicara, menyampaikan pikirannya dengan baik dan benar. Selama anak-anak minum susu sebelum mulai belajar setiap Sabtu, seorang anak dari kategori III presentasi hasil bacaannya, dilampiri gambar-gambar dari buku bacaannya. Selama bulan ini, anak-anak wajib baca buku ensiklopedi. Dengan demikian, semua anak dapat pengetahuan baru, baik sebagai pendengar maupun sebagai pembicara.

Kegiatan ketrampilan rutin dilakukan setiap Selasa disamping kegiatan perpustakaan. Kegiatan ketrampilan yang dilakukan pada hari itu berbeda dengan kegiatan ketrampilan dalam kegiatan belajar setiap Jumat dan Sabtu. Hasil dari kegiatan ketrampilan ini untuk dijual sebagai bagian dari program peningkatan usaha anak dan remaja Komunitas Anak Belajar. Bagi anak-anak yang memiliki hasil ketrampilan yang cukup baik, kami ikut sertakan dalam kegiatan rutin setiap Selasa. Hasil penjualan dibagi untuk modal kegiatan dan kompensasi anak-anak yang dimasukkan dalam tabungan. Hasil karya mereka dapat dilihat dalam blog kami, http://cakungchildrencreation.blogspot.com.


b. Komunitas Muara Baru

Kegiatan belajar mulai dilakukan kembali pada minggu II September 2012. Pada hari itu, jumlah peserta meningkat, dari yang biasanya sekitar 6 – 7 anak, menjadi 17 anak. Hingga akhir September, peserta aktif menjadi 13 anak.

Sebelum mulai belajar, tempat belajar sudah disiapkan dengan baik oleh peserta belajar.

Kegiatan belajar dilakukan dalam dua kelompok, seperti halnya dengan kegiatan belajar di Cakung sawah.

Kami ucapkan terimakasih banyak atas kerjasama para fasilitator, volunteer, anak-anak dan warga Cakung dan Muara Baru, terutama pada Yana, Indri, Riska, Lisna, Kak Uju, dan anak-anak pengurus program, serta Bu Herda di Muara Baru dan para Ibu warga Cakung.


Perpustakaan

Kegiatan perpustakaan selama bulan September dilakukan dengan registrasi dan penomeran serta penyampulan buku.

Pada minggu III September 2012, ada pembelian beberapa majalah dan buku ketrampilan sebagai referensi kegiatan ketrampilan.

Pada Rabu, 19 September 2012, kami menerima antaran sumbangan buku-buku perpustakaan, berupa ensiklopedi, atlas, kamus bahasa Indonesia dan bahasa Inggris, serta buku bacaan anak-anak dari Bu Gerda Silalahi atas nama QBE. Sedangkan pada Kamis, 20 September 2012, menyusul setelah bantuan buku, kami menerima antaran sumbangan lemari, pembatas buku, white board, spidol whiteboard dan 1 set meja lipat dengan lima kursi lipat.

Terimakasih banyak pada Bu Gerda dan QBE yang sudah membantu menyumbangkan buku-buku, lemari dan perlengkapannya untuk program Perpustakaan anak.

Hingga akhir September 2012, jumlah buku perpustakaan yang diregistrasi pada tahun ini ada 637 buah.


Kegiatan Peningkatan Gizi Anak

Selama September 2012 ini, kegiatan peningkatan gizi anak berlangsung dengan baik.

Selain minum susu rutin, menu sehat bulan ini adalah telur rebus, minuman pepaya yang dipotong seukuran dadu didalam perasan jeruk nipis ditambah sedikit gula, rujak kangkung, dan bubur kacang hijau dengan irisan pisang kepok.

Pada Sabtu I September 2012, masih dalam suasana Lebaran, kami menyuguhkan biscuit dan sirup pada anak-anak, sebagai pengganti menu sehat awal bulan, apalagi ada sumbangan biscuit dan sirup dalam beberapa paket sembako. Sambil mendengarkan hasil evaluasi belajar kurikulum II, anak-anak menikmati suguhan.

Pada pertengahan bulan ini, kami mendapatkan 3 paket sembako dari Kak Tuti atas nama KONTRAS. Terimakasih banyak atas bantuan dan perhatiannya. Kiranya kerjasama yang telah dijalin dengan baik, dapat terus berlanjut.

Disamping kebutuhan untuk program perpustakaan anak, Bu Gerda atas nama QBE memberikan bantuan vitamin tablet kunyah dan madu. Bantuan beras dan kacang hijau kami bagikan pada setiap orang tua anak. Sisa kacang hijau, kami gunakan untuk makan bersama bubur kacang hijau sebagai menu sehat pada Sabtu terakhir bulan ini.

Terimakasih kami pada Bu Gerda Silalahi dan QBE yang sudah datang menyampaikan bantuannya.

Akhirnya, kami berterimakasih pada koordinator dan tim pengurus program serta para Ibu, yang telah membantu mempersiapkan menu sehat selama bulan September 2012.


Beasiswa

Kebutuhan pembelian buku pelajaran dan fotokopi bagi anak-anak sekolah dasar meningkat pada bulan ini. Bagi anak penerima beasiswa yang melanjutkan pendidikannya di universitas, pembelian beberapa buku kuliah juga dilakukan. Kuliah yang berlangsung pagi hingga siang hari membutuhkan tidak hanya biaya transport kuliah tetapi juga untuk konsumsi siang di sekitar kampus.

Seorang anak yang putus sekolah di kelas II SMK dan rutin membantu dalam kegiatan belajar Komunitas Anak Belajar, direncanakan untuk mengikuti ujian persamaan tingkat SMA pada akhir tahun ini. Ia berharap bisa mendapatkan kesempatan untuk belajar komputer.

Terimakasih kami pada Kak Arry Fitriana dan teman-teman yang berkenan rutin membantu penyelenggaraan program beasiswa ini. Kami berharap kerjasama ini dapat terus berlanjut dan menjadi bekal yang berguna bagi masa depan anak-anak.


Rencana kegiatan di bulan Oktober 2012 ini adalah :

1. Pembelian sampul plastik kebutuhan program Perpustakaan.
2. Penggalangan dana melalui penjualan hasil karya ketrampilan.
3. Kegiatan belajar rutin caturwulan III selama September – awal Desember 2012.

Setiap Sabtu akhir bulan, kegiatan koperasi simpan pinjam diadakan oleh dan untuk warga Cakung. Hingga saat ini jumlah peserta kegiatan koperasi ada 13 orang. Peminjaman dana kebutuhan warga Cakung, biasanya untuk kebutuhan perlengkapan sekolah anak-anaknya dan modal usaha warga.

Akhirnya, kami ucapkan banyak terimakasih pada teman-teman yang telah banyak mendukung dalam doa dan dana, tenaga, maupun material untuk terwujudnya program pendidikan alternatif Komunitas Anak Belajar sepanjang bulan ini.

Terimakasih kami pada Kak Tuti atas nama KONTRAS atas bantuan paket sembako. Terimakasih pada Bu Gerda Silalahi atas nama QBE atas bantuan buku, lemari, meja kursi, whiteboard, bingkisan untuk anak-anak dan sembako. Terimakasih banyak atas bantuan material yang telah diberikan.

Progress Report of Children Learning Community on August 2012

Dear friends,

Happy Eid Fitri 1433H for those who celebrate.

In August, the learning activities at Children Learning Community run well.

During the Ramadhan holiday, we opened the opportunity for savings withdrawal and most children withdrew some of their savings.

On 2nd Saturday, near to the Ramadhan holiday, we had guests from MaGis group who did live-in with us a few months ago. Kak Bella came together with Kak Silvy and Kak Andra. Kak Andra accompanied children of Category 0 while Kak Bella accompanied the children of Category 1 and 2. Kak Silvy accompanied children from Category 3 who learned English.

After studying, they had a chat with us and explained their activities in their community group further. They told us their plan to have social community voluntarary works at our house in the near future.

We thank for their visit and wish our friendship will continue well.

While our learning activity had a break on week 3, all the facilitators were busy with getting and collecting Ramadhan gifts for all the residents. On the week 3, the gifts were distributed.

We visited residents houses on the 2nd day of Eid Fitri. It was a different experience for us as they now live quite apart after the eviction. We used to celebrate the Eid Fitri together as we used to live nearby and happily enjoyed the farm land.

It took the whole morning and afternoon for us to visit residents in Cakung. On the late afternoon, we visited residents in Muara Baru and had dinner there.

On the next day, some children visited the facilitators’ house. Eventhough the facilitators do not celebrate Eid Fitri, we were happy to welcome them. It felt as parents welcoming their children. This sense of tolerance is quite rare in our beloved country now. We felt their visits give us hope that the younger generation practicing the beautiful value of living together in harmony despite of any differences.

Some of them expressed their wish to pay a respect to Kak Chichie’s final rest. We then decided to visit her on the remembrance of her last day with us. It was exactly 2 years and 4 months after she left us. We shared beautiful memories about her. We missed her. We believe she must have been missing us too. Our prayer is with her always in her rest in the House of God.

On Thursday, 26 August 2012, we had guests from far, Pak Mehdi Laftavi and Bu Margareth Laftavi. They had visited us 3 years ago. Some of the children gathered in the house to welcome them.

It was in the afternoon when Bu Esti drove Laftavi couple to visit the children. They went around the house to see the condition of the house, study rooms and library. After chatting and introduction, the couple handed out some biscuits, milk and various snacks to the children. Before they left, the children performed Rampak Gendang dance and gave them a souvenir of beads created by them.

After visiting the Learning House, they went to visit one of the children’s house where since early August 2012 have been used as learning place in Cakung.

The afternoon was suddenly changed from a quiet to a cheerful one. The children were so happy to meet a caucasian guest. Pak Mehdi spent a time to go around the location and talked with several residents.

We were so happy and felt grateful of their visit who were accompanied by Bu Esti. Thanks to all of you. We hope to see you again.

A few days after, we received another guests from far again. Kak Ita who used to visit us a few years ago came with her family. They spent their holiday at Learning House in Cakung.

We were so glad to chat with Kak Ita as she really understands our condition and is willing to support our activities.

The children were so proud to show their Rampak Gendang dance and to present a souvenir made by themselves before Kak Ita and her family went home. She bought some Eid Fitri and Christmas paper quiling cards, creation of the Cakung children.

Thanks to Kak Ita and her family for staying and mingled with the children.


Alternative Learning Activities

The learning activities in August only run for the first two week as the rest of the month were a holiday season.

Some children and their families of Cakung went to visit their home village on the Eid Fitri day, while some children and the parents of Muara Baru had been went to their village since mid of August.

There were several changes in conducting the learning activities. We run the learning activities amongst the residential area, we should keep the learning activities in well order.

a. Cakung Children Community

We decided to use only one place for conducting the learning activities for Cakung Children Community.

On the 1st week, all the facilitators waited for the children on the Learning Tent located on the empty land. We did it as most of the children did not know where they would have the activities held.

Usually we started our activities by nail cutting and washing hands, then the children sang together however, we omit these activities unless we have guests visiting us. During this time, the numbers of children was less by half than it used to be.

Many of the children live quite far from the Learning House and could not come to join us. Therefore, since early August, we accommodate them by conducting the activities in different place, on the piece of land where the farm is not evicted yet.

The learning activities for Cakung Sawah (paddy field) area was held behind a garbage press factory on every Tuesday and Thursday. We use the security post which no longer being used by the factory. Although the post does not have any windows, its tile is still in good condition. Before starting the activities, we sweep the floor first. There are approximately 10 children participated in this learning activity. There are many young children aged pre-school and primary school who we need to encourage to participate to study together.

We usually start the activities by nail cutting, washing hand, taking vitamin, singing together first.

We divided the children into 2 groups based on their ability to recognise letters and numbers. Some of them need to learn letters and numbers and some of them can read books, retell and rewrite dictated stories.

We bring different books every week, including story books, folkstory books to magazines and science comics.

b. Muara Baru Community

The learning activities are held every Sunday. Besides studying together, we do book readings.

During the fasting month, we held the learning activities at one of the children house as the pre-school activity which we normally use was being used for praying and tarawih every night.

As per the children in Cakung group, the children in Muara Baru also had their holiday on the 3rd week of August. This opportunity allowed them to prepare for the Eid Fitri. They had agreed to start the activities on the 2nd week of September.

The break for Muara Baru community is a bit longer than the one for Cakung community, as their parents had plans to bring the families to their villages.

We thank all the collaborative effort of all facilitators, volunteers, children and residents of Cakung and Muara Baru, especially to Yana, Lisna, Indri and the program committee members as well as Bu Herda of Muara Baru and all the mothers from Cakung.


Library

The library activity which usually run on Wednesdays has to be altered to be on every Tuesday in August. We held the library activity after the learning activities in Cakung Sawah, behind the garbage pressing factory.

In August, we received several donated books from Bu Lisa. We also bought some art craft reference books on our way back from Kak Chichie’s resting place.

We decided to have a break on the library activity starting on 3rd week of August. However, we did book registration and numbering on the book cover.

Thanks to Bu Lisa who had donated school text books and story books for the children. Thanks to Bu Julie Dharmasoeka who organising the book collections from her friends at her home.


Nutrition Improvement for Children

In this August, the nutrition improvement activity run well.

Besides having milk, we provided healthy meals kolak to break fastings on the 1st Saturday and hard-boiled egg on 2nd Saturday.

During the fasting month, the nutrition improvement for children was provided for all children. For the young children who were not fasting, they had the meals when we provided the food. However for the children who fast, they had the meals for breaking the fast together with their families.

At the end of this month, Kak Ita came to bring some extra milk powder. We were so happy and grateful for all her support and kind attention. We thank you, Kak Ita.

Thanks to Kak Iyung and his friend from Aulia Foundation who came to distribute Scott’s Emulsion vitamin.

We also thank for all the coordinators and program committee as well as all the mothers who had been actively participated in providing healthy menu for August.


Scholarship

The scholarship recipients especially the primary school age students had their holiday started on Thursday 16/08/2012. They’re back to school on Tuesday, 28/08/2012.

One of the scholarship recipients who continues her study to university, Indri, has started her study since Monday, 27 /aug 2012. She went for an orientation program for a week, from morning until evening. Almost everyday she had to bring some food and several things for the orientation program.

Fortunately, the oientation program run during the school holiday therefore, it did not affect her commitment to Cakung Children community.

September 2012 schedule are :

1. We conducted 2nd Quarter study evaluation for children in Cakung on Saturday, 1st September 2012 at one of the children’s house.

2. We started the learning activities for 3rd Quarter from September to December 2012.

Finally, we thank to friends for their support, prayer and fund as well as their physical helps, material supply and time. Without their support, we would not be able to make the alternative learning programs for the children community happened in this month.

Thanks to Sr. Annunciata, OSU and Sanggar akar for the food supply, Bu Lisa for the books and toys, Aulia Foundation for providing vitamins, Laftavi family for the biscuits, milk and snacks as well as Kak Ita and Citra Indonesia Foundation for the milk. We thank for all the helps and material supply. Thanks to Anita Linggar and friends who help us in translating the report.

We thank for all fundraisings which have been a great help for us running all the activities. We thank to Kak Elissa, Kak Jenny, Bu Vina – Pak Arend – Michelle Maramis, Kak Arry Fitriana, Kak Paramita Rai who gave away her birthday monies for the children and passed it to us through Kak Anita Linggar.

We thank Pak Robinson Robert Simanjuntak and Kak Ita who represented Citra Indonesia Foundation for coming to visit us for far to deliver the fund.

Laporan Kegiatan Komunitas Anak Belajar pada Agustus 2012

Salam jumpa teman-teman yang baik,

Selamat Idul Fitri 1433 H bagi teman-teman yang merayakannya.
Mohon maaf lahir dan batin.

Sepanjang Agustus ini, kegiatan belajar Komunitas Anak Belajar dapat berjalan dengan baik.

Menjelang libur Lebaran, pengambilan uang tabungan dibuka pada minggu II. Hampir semua anak mengambil sebagian tabungannya.

Pada Sabtu II, menjelang libur Lebaran, kami kedatangan kakak-kakak dari kelompok MaGis, yang beberapa bulan lalu mengadakan live-in. Kak Bella datang bersama Kak Silvy dan Kak Andra. Kakak-kakak menemani anak-anak belajar. Kak Andra menemani belajar anak-anak kategori 0, sedangkan Kak Bella menemani anak-anak kategori 1 dan 2. Kak Silvy menemani belajar anak-anak kategori 3, yang saat itu sedang belajar Bahasa Inggris.

Selesai belajar, Kakak-kakak dari kelompok MaGis berbincang-bincang dengan kami, menguraikan tindak lanjut kegiatan mereka, dengan merencanakan akan mengadakan bakti sosial di rumah kegiatan Komunitas Anak Belajar pada beberapa bulan ke depan.

Terimakasih atas kehadiran Kakak-kakak kelompok MaGis. Semoga persahabatan kita tetap terus terjalin dengan baik.

Saat kegiatan belajar diliburkan pada minggu III, para fasilitator justru disibukkan dengan pengambilan sumbangan sembako untuk bingkisan Lebaran bagi warga. Pada minggu III, pemberian bingkisan Lebaran mulai dilakukan.

Memasuki Lebaran hari II, kami berkunjung ke rumah warga, yang semakin berpencar jauh akibat penggusuran tempat tinggal dan lahan usaha mereka. Lebaran tahun ini berbeda jauh dengan tahun-tahun sebelumnya, dimana sebelumnya, warga masih berkumpul dan merayakannya bersama-sama, hidup rukun di atas lahan perkebunan.

Tahun ini, semakin jauh kami mengunjungi rumah warga satu per satu. Sore hari selesai berkunjung, kami pergi ke tempat kegiatan belajar di Muara Baru dan makan malam disana.

Beberapa hari berikutnya, beberapa anak berkunjung ke rumah fasilitator. Walau tidak merayakan Lebaran, kami senang anak-anak mau berkunjung, layaknya orang tua yang dikunjungi oleh anak-anaknya. Budaya toleransi yang sudah langka di negeri tercinta ini, mulai menyembulkan harapan dengan adanya kuncup-kuncup baru yang belajar memahami hidup bersama dalam perbedaan.

Beberapa anak mengutarakan niatnya untuk ziarah ke makam Kak Chichie. Kami putuskan untuk berziarah pada tanggal Kak Chichie berpulang. Hari itu genap 2 tahun 4 bulan Kak Chichie meninggalkan kami. Kenangan indah bersama Kak Chichie selalu hadir. Kerinduan kami tak akan pernah pupus. Kami yakin Kak Chichie juga memiliki kerinduan yang sama. Doa kami menyertai Kak Chichie senantiasa dalam istirahat kekalnya di rumah Tuhan.

Pada hari Kamis, 26 Agustus 2012, kami kedatangan tamu jauh, Pak Mehdi dan Bu Margareth Laftavi, yang pernah berkunjung ke rumah belajar Cakung tiga tahun yang lalu. Beberapa anak berkumpul di rumah kegiatan menyambut kedatangan mereka.

Siang hari, keluarga Laftavi diantar oleh Bu Esti, datang mengunjungi anak-anak di rumah kegiatan. Mereka melihat-lihat kondisi rumah dan ruangan yang kami gunakan untuk kegiatan belajar dan perpustakaan. Usai berbincang-bincang dan berkenalan dengan anak-anak, Pak Mehdi dan Ibu membagikan biscuit, susu, dan aneka snack untuk anak-anak. Sebelum pulang, anak-anak menampilkan tari Rampak Gendang dan memberikan kenang-kenangan kreasi manik-manik pada mereka.

Setelah itu, Pak Mehdi dan Bu Margareth berkunjung ke rumah salah satu anak peserta belajar di Cakung, dimana sejak awal Agustus 2012, kami membuka tempat untuk kegiatan belajar anak-anak disana.

Suasana siang itu yang tadinya sepi menjadi ramai dengan anak-anak, yang senang dengan kehadiran tamu-tamu bule. Pak Mehdi menyempatkan waktu untuk melihat-lihat lokasi dan berbincang-bincang dengan beberapa warga.

Kami sangat senang dan berterimakasih atas kehadiran Pak Mehdi dan Bu Margareth Laftavi, diantar oleh Bu Esti. Terimakasih banyak. Kami nantikan kehadirannya kembali.

Beberapa hari setelah itu, kami kedatangan kembali tamu jauh. Kak Ita yang beberapa tahun lalu berkunjung ke rumah belajar Cakung bersama keluarganya, kini datang kembali dan berkenan meluangkan waktu liburnya di rumah kegiatan Cakung.

Kami senang berbincang-bincang dengan Kak Ita, yang sungguh memahami keadaan kami dan bersemangat mendukung kegiatan kami.

Anak-anak dengan bangga menampilkan kebolehannya menari Rampak Gendang dan memberi kenang-kenangan hasil karya mereka sebelum Kak Ita dan keluarganya pulang. Kak Ita membeli banyak kartu paper quilling Lebaran dan Natal, kreasi anak-anak Cakung.

Terimakasih pada Kak Ita dan keluarga yang berkenan hadir dan menyatu dengan anak-anak.

Kegiatan Belajar Alternatif

Kegiatan belajar selama bulan Agustus berlangsung selama minggu I dan minggu II, selebihnya adalah libur Lebaran.

Beberapa anak dan orang tua warga Cakung pulang kampong pada hari Lebaran, sementara anak dan orang tua warga Muara Baru sudah pulang kampong sejak pertengahan Agustus.

a. Komunitas Anak Cakung

Kegiatan belajar sejak awal Agustus diputuskan untuk disatukan di rumah kegiatan Komunitas Anak Cakung.

Pada minggu I mulai kegiatan, para fasilitator menunggu kehadiran anak-anak di atas lahan tenda belajar yang sudah rata dengan tanah merah. Hal ini dilakukan mengingat belum semua anak peserta kegiatan belajar tahu keberadaan rumah kegiatan.

Ada beberapa perubahan dan perbedaan yang harus kami jalani. Karena rumah kegiatan berada di tengah pemukiman, maka kami harus tetap menjaga ketenangan belajar.

Kebiasaan awal, setelah gunting kuku dan cuci tangan, anak-anak bernyanyi bersama, kini ditiadakan, kecuali bila ada tamu berkunjung. Jumlah anak peserta kegiatan belajar sendiri menjadi berkurang separuhnya.

Anak-anak yang tinggal semakin jauh dari rumah kegiatan, tidak bisa datang. Untuk itu, sejak awal Agustus, kami coba siasati dengan membuka kegiatan belajar di lokasi lain, di atas lahan kebun, yang belum kena gusur.

Kegiatan belajar di wilayah Cakung sawah, belakang pabrik pengepresan sampah dilakukan setiap Selasa dan Kamis. Pos ronda yang sudah tidak dipergunakan, menjadi tempat anak-anak belajar. Sekalipun sudah tak berjendela, lantai ubinnya masih bagus. Sebelum mulai belajar, kami sapu bersih. Jumlah anak yang terlibat kegiatan belajar sekitar 10 anak. Ada banyak anak kecil, usia pra-sekolah dan SD yang masih perlu kami ajak untuk belajar bersama.

Kegiatan awal yang kami lakukan, seperti kegiatan belajar sebelumnya. Anak-anak dibiasakan untuk gunting kuku dan cuci tangan, kemudian minum vitamin, bernyanyi bersama, setelah itu mulai kegiatan belajar.

Kegiatan belajar dibagi 2 kelompok, bagi anak-anak yang belum mengenal huruf dan angka, dan kegiatan baca buku dan bercerita dilanjutkan dengan dikte bagi kelompok berikutnya.

Buku bacaan yang kami bawa pun setiap minggu diganti. Mulai dari buku cerita dan dongeng hingga majalah dan komik sains.

b. Komunitas Muara Baru

Kegiatan belajar dilakukan setiap hari Minggu. Kegiatan selain diisi dengan kegiatan belajar juga kegiatan membaca buku perpustakaan.

Selama bulan puasa, kegiatan belajar dilakukan di rumah salah seorang anak, karena ruang PAUD yang biasa digunakan untuk kegiatan mengaji dipakai untuk tarawih setiap malam.

Seperti halnya di Cakung, anak-anak Muara Baru juga menikmati liburnya pada minggu III Agustus 2012 sambil mempersiapkan hari raya. Atas kesepakatan bersama anak-anak, kegiatan belajar akan dimulai kembali pada minggu II September.

Waktu libur di Komunitas Muara Baru lebih lama daripada waktu libur di Cakung karena sejak pertengahan Agustus, para orang tua sudah mengajak keluarganya untuk pulang kampong.

Akhirnya kami ucapkan terimakasih banyak atas kerjasama para fasilitator, volunteer, anak-anak dan warga Cakung dan Muara Baru, terutama pada Yana, Lisna, Indri, dan anak-anak pengurus program, serta Bu Herda di Muara Baru dan para Ibu warga Cakung.

Perpustakaan

Kegiatan yang biasanya diadakan setiap hari Rabu, sejak akhir Agustus diganti dengan hari Selasa. Kegiatan perpustakaan dilakukan setelah kegiatan belajar di Cakung sawah, belakang tempat pengepresan sampah.

Pada bulan Agustus ini, ada beberapa sumbangan buku dari Bu Lisa. Beberapa buku referensi ketrampilan kami beli sepulang dari ziarah ke makam Kak Chichie.

Kegiatan perpustakaan mulai libur pada minggu III. Kegiatan selama bulan Agustus dilakukan dengan registrasi dan penomeran serta penyampulan buku.

Terimakasih pada Bu Lisa yang sudah membantu menyumbangkan buku-buku pelajaran dan buku bacaan anak-anak. Terimakasih kami pada Bu Jully Dharmasoeka yang berkenan mengumpulkan barang-barang sumbangan teman-teman di rumahnya.

Kegiatan Peningkatan Gizi Anak

Selama Agustus 2012 ini, kegiatan peningkatan gizi anak berlangsung dengan baik.

Selain minum susu rutin, menu sehat bulan ini adalah kolak sebagai penganan buka puasa pada Sabtu I dan telur rebus pada Sabtu II.

Selama masa puasa, kegiatan peningkatan gizi anak tetap diberikan pada seluruh anak. Anak-anak kecil yang belum puasa, makan saat kegiatan berlangsung sementara pada Sabtu I, anak-anak yang berpuasa menunggu buka puasa untuk makan kolak bersama di rumah kegiatan.

Akhir bulan ini, Kak Ita datang membawa banyak bantuan susu bubuk. Kami senang dan berterimakasih atas dukungan dan perhatiannya. Terimakasih banyak kami ucapkan.

Terimakasih kami pada Kak Iyung dan temannya dari Yayasan Aulia, yang datang menyampaikan bantuan vitamin Scott’s Emulsion.

Akhirnya, kami berterimakasih pada koordinator dan tim pengurus program serta para Ibu, yang telah membantu mempersiapkan menu sehat selama bulan Agustus 2012.

Beasiswa

Anak-anak penerima beasiswa, terutama murid SD mulai libur menyambut Lebaran pada Kamis, 16 Agustus 2012. Mereka masuk sekolah pada hari Selasa, 28 Agustus 2012.

Salah seorang anak penerima beasiswa yang melanjutkan pendidikannya di universitas, Indri, sudah mulai masuk sekolah sejak Senin, 27 Agustus 2012. Selama seminggu diadakan kegiatan orientasi kampus. Kegiatan berlangsung dari pagi hingga malam hari.
Hampir setiap hari ia ditugaskan membawa makanan dan perlengkapan yang digunakan selama masa orientasi.
Karena masih libur kegiatan belajar, maka kegiatan yang berlangsung di kampusnya tidak menyita waktu pendampingannya di Cakung.

Rencana kegiatan di bulan September 2012 ini adalah :

1. Evaluasi belajar anak-anak Cakung pada caturwulan II dilaksanakan pada Sabtu, 1 September 2012 di rumah kegiatan Komunitas Anak Belajar.

2. Dimulai kegiatan belajar caturwulan III selama September – awal Desember 2012.

Akhirnya, kami ucapkan banyak terimakasih pada teman-teman yang telah banyak mendukung dalam doa dan dana, tenaga, maupun material dan waktu untuk terwujudnya program pendidikan alternatif Komunitas Anak Belajar sepanjang bulan ini.

Progress Report of Children Learning Community on July 2012

Dear friends,

The Children Learning Community activities run well in July.

The Children Leadership Training was held on the second week of July 2012, exactly on Saturday, July 14th, 2012. The training run well, assisted by Kak Alvieni & Kak Yudhi. The theme of this training is ‘Teamwork Building’.

The goal of this annually training is to develop the children competency and self-confidence in team building and leading the organization, which in the real meaning is to serve others.

A good leader is a leader who could build effective teamwork. Therefore it is imperative to empower them with necessary skills through leadership training.

The training was held in the learning tent. The committee had made a well preparation for all the needs so they still could be actively participated in the training.

The breakfast and lunch were provided by our sponsor, Kak Arry Fitriana from Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC).

The training began with introduction, then continued with some games to develop communication ability. We use words, body language, tone, and feelings in communication so we could communicate well without creating a wrong perception.

Then the children learned to explore ideas and creativity in the games. They did it both in groups and as individual to learn about building teamwork. They had to do the work together, made presentations and made some motto to show their identity and the group competency.

The teamwork games also served to build social awareness and an ability to complete a targeted task. The children in groups did it by throwing paper balls in a basket.

The children were so enthusiastic and excited to participate in the training especially as Kak Alvieni & Kak Yudhi assisted the children with full enthusiasm.

The training was closed by giving some souvenirs and farming produce of Cakung people to Kak Alvieni & Kak Yudhi. The children were performing Rampak Gendang dance too.

We thank Kak Alvieni and Kak Yudhi very much for their contributions as the Leadership Traning providers for Cakung children. Thanks to Kak Arry Fitriana and KFC for providing the meals in the training.

We hope our collaboration could be continued well.

In the end of July, we had to advise sad news to the children. Our learning tent had to be dismantled as the development of the multifunction warehouse would commence soon.

Some people had moved to a nearby location which has not been bought by the big developer yet. They stay in a farming area near to Cakung house of activity and it is located within Jakarta Garden city real estate.

The fourth of Saturday, at the end of July 2012 is the last day for the children to learn under the tent. Their spirits are still high and want to continue the learning activity. Therefore, we decided to run the activities in the house of activity and at one of Cakung resident’s house.

After the learning activity on that Saturday, we brought all desks and whiteboard to the house of activity. All the facilitators, children, committee team members and some ladies helped us to bring the goods to the learning house. We took a rest on the fast breaking time and continued it until 8.30PM.

Initially, if the learning tent was not dismantled yet until early August, we were planning to keep using it. However, we would divide the children into several groups to do the activities in separate places. Children from category 0 and 1 would learn at one of the resident’s house while children from category 2 and 3 would learn at the Learning House. We had to do this arrangement as the local chief of the community did not acknowledge our existence and did not grant any permission to conduct this learning activity in their area.

Furthermore, our new learning house was located amongst the residents’ houses. We could not gather all the children in the house as we need to keep the noise low. Then we decided to conduct the learning activities in separate places.


Alternative Learning Activities

The making of study desk lesson had started since the early July 2012. One of Cakung resident gave a hand to make them. There are 3 study desks, so the old and rotten ones could be replaced.

For learning home based business skills, we all learn to make prayer beads and Idul Fitri cards. This is quite aligned to the Islamic fasting month. We all did it at the Learning Tent.

We usually do preparation as well as learning activities evaluation on monthly basis where all facilitators and committee members gathered. We refer our main curriculum evaluation which was established early of the year in doing the preparation and evaluation.

For July activity evaluation, we did it at the Learning Tent. This was our last time to use the tent for our activity. If you see the pictures on our blog, you may find piles of red soil on top of the residents’ plant area. It is closed to the Learning Tent.

We are sad however, it is a reality we should face. The Cakung residents have experienced unfairness however, this should not be diminishing their spirit to have a better life. Life goes on and we have to move on. The children should be prepared to be intellectually and spiritually educated for them to be able to take on with their life in future, in harmony with the nature and all creations of God the Almighty.


a. Cakung Children Community

In this 2nd quarter, the children of the 0 category started to learn spelling by pronouncing alphabets and numeric 0 to 10. We used simple word cards with interesting pictures for them to learn how to spell. Each child presented the card and read each alphabet in front of their peers and then they spelt the word together. In learning maths, they learn addition and subtraction from things surround them.

After the activities, children learn to sing national hymnes such as Indonesia Raya and Satu Nusa Satu Bangsa.

Children of the 1st category are now able to read simple stories with big letters. After reading, we asked them to re-tell the story. They learn counting by playing snakes and ladders board-games, where they learn how to add and subtract. In this game, each of them was required to write the number they did in a book. We assigned a facilitator of 1st category to assist the children in this game.

Children in the 2nd category learn counting using jarimatika (= counting with fingers) method. They also practice to read longer stories and to re-tell the stories. Since early June, they also learn basic multiplication. Now, children learn the multiplication using jarimatika method up to number 25 and learn a bit more complex counting including adding, subtraction and multiplication.

For children of the 3rd category, beside reading books, we asked them to learn summarising articles and re-telling it in front of their friends as well as they need to learn about descriptive writings and learn the structure of sentence, SPOK (subject – predicate – object – adjective/adverb).

The life-skill activity for all children from every categories, we learn together how to cover the notebook with brown paper & plastic cover on the 1st of Saturday on July 2012. Every child has to bring a new notebook and we provide the brown paper and plastic covers.

Facilitators and some friends assisted them in learning to cover the books.

The children character building activities (Living Values Activities) theme of this month is honesty. We usually do this activity by sharing, singing, role playing (such as playing certain roles, taking different role play and telling stories) and finishing it with meditation.

To learn about honesty, the children learn the meaning of being honest as the best value and the compass of their judgements in life. Children learn why we have to live honestly, its reason and the consequences if they don’t live honesty.


b. Muara Baru Community

The learning activity runs every Sunday. We usually study together as well as reading books from our little library collection.

On the 2nd week of July, we were not doing any activities due to school vacation of the children of Muara Baru.

Now, the learning activities run at RT 14. Although the numbers of participants are mostly the same, there is always new participants join. Their age are ranging from 6 years old to 11 years old.

During the fasting month, the learning activity was held at one of the children’s house as people need to use the classroom for praying and tarawih every night.

The learning activity on this month were held by singing in English songs, learn reading, writing, counting and speaking as per the arrangement done for the children of Cakung.

We thank all the collaborative works between the facilitators, the children and residents of Cakung and Muara Baru, especially to Yana, Riska, Lisna, and Indri as well as all the committee members and housewives in Cakung area.


Library

We open our library on every Wednesdays. Mostly we start it with book registration and list them and then we put covers on the books.

This month, the library activities were only registering and covering books. We still have many books were not covered yet. We did it based on the books specification.

In July, we received many donated student books. We sort them by school grade. We lend some books to children in Cakung who need the books for their study.

Every book listed and stamped by the coordinators to remind them when returning the books after the end of the school year.

Thanks abundantly to friends who donate the student books. Thanks to the alumni of St.Ursula school; Mrs.Retno, Mrs.Meli, Mrs.Lydia Simatupang, and Mrs.Sylvia Makaminang. Thank you very much for Mrs.July Dharmasoeka for providing her house for gathering the material support from the alumni of St.Ursula school. Thank you very much for Mr.Arif and Mrs.Maria and their friends, also Jessica-Jason-Justin Maitimu for material supporting and student books.


Nutrition Improvement Program for Children

In July 2012, the nutrition improvement activities run well.

Besides drinking milk, the healthy menu for this month was hard-boiled egg, mango juice, and vegetable with spicy coconut shred. On the 2nd of Saturday, we did not do any activities due to leadership training for the children of the 3rd category.

During this fasting month, we still provide the healthy menu to all children. Younger children who have not reached fasting age yet could eat during the activity. The rest of them who are fasting took away the food to their home and had it to break their fasting.

Thanks to all coordinators and committee as well as Soni’s mom who had helped the preparation of healthy menu for July. Thanks to Ms.Qori’ah who provided the vitamin for the children.


Scholarship

The children who receive scholarship, especially the elementary school students, began the school year 2012 – 2012 around mid of July. We are experiencing an increment on the school expenditures, particularly for the school needs including school uniforms, notebooks, stationeries and student books. Some children can borrow books from the library program for their school year of 2012 – 2013.

One of the scholarship recipients, who wish to pursue to university, had to do the fund administration at the end of July in a bank located at the campus. That is the reason we have to allocate quite large amount of school fund this month.
For every student who pay full for the school fee have discount, so we just pay 5.300.000rupiahs from 5.550.000rupiahs for one of the scholarship recipients in university.

Our big thank to friends who support the Cakung Children scholarship.


August - September 2012 Activity Plan:

•In 1st and 2nd week of August, we will still do some learning activities. However, we will not doing any activities on the 3rd and 4th weeks due to Idul Fitri celebration. We will start the activities again on 1st September 2012.
•We will conduct learning evaluation for the 2nd quarter on Saturday, September 1st, 2012 at the learning community house.
•We will organise the purchase of milk powder as part of the Children Nutrition Improvement program.
•We will survey the new location of learning activity at Cakung farming area, behind the garbage pressed factory.
