Alternative Learning Activities
a. Cakung Children Community
On May 2013, the learning activities could run well. The computer lesson could not be done during May 2013 due to find the time for the children to learn at Ms. Sari’s house.
The life-skill activity focused on sewing, which few times had done every Friday. On Saturday, May 25th, 2013, on the Buddhist New Year holiday, the learning activity for the children of the 3rd category and some children who dropped out from school was sewing.
Through Mr. Mehdi and Mrs. Margareth Laftavi’s support, the children have opportunity to learn sewing by 2 sets of sewing machine.
We hope through these equipments, we could develop the teenagers income generating from sewing production.
We are so grateful for Laftavi family’s support and for Ms. Lestari who assist the children in learning sewing.
b. The Muara Baru Community
On this month, the learning activities are held not only on the 1st and the 3rd week.
We learned in two groups, the first for the preschool until second grade who still learning reading, writing, and counting with Ms. Indri, while the last for the third until six grade with Ms. Debby. The learning activity for the 2nd group was not only English lesson, also Bahasa Indonesia, especially for the 6th grade of primary students.
The need of facilitating children in learning Mathematic, Bahasa Indonesia, and English for the 6th grade primary students who will follow the national examination, made us choose to give more time. On Monday, May 6th, 2013, after the national examination, some of children learn together accompanied by Ms. Indri and Ms. Debby.
We discussed to do Mathematic questions until afternoon. The children learned seriously.
We hope their will and spirit could develop well.
We thank all the collaborative works between the facilitators, the volunteers, the children and residents of Cakung and Muara Baru, especially to Mrs. Herda at Muara Baru, Ms. Lisa, Ms. Henni, Ms. Qori’ah, Indri, Riska, Lisna, and the children coordinator program.
Bibliotheque
The activities of this month were labeling, covering the books donation, and taking books in order on the bookshelves.
They were on the 2nd and 4th of Wednesday on May 2013.
We thank for the attention and the perseverance of the team.
Nutrition Improvement Program for Children
On May 2013, the program could run well.
Besides drinking milk, the healthy menu on this month were hard-boiled egg, slices steamed cassava with coconut slices and sprinkle sugar, and melon.
On the 1st of Saturday on May 2013, the usual menu was hard-boiled egg. The children used to eat it with salt or soyasauce.
On the 2nd of Saturday on May 2013, the healthy menu was slices steamed cassava with coconut slices and sprinkle sugar. This traditional snack is usually on the children’s dining table. Now, they learn to cook it. The children like this snack.
On the 3rd of Saturday on May 2013, melon was the menu. This rainy season during May 2013 made so many melon along the streets and markets in Cakung. The children decided to choose melon in the schedule.
At the end of May 2013, to be exact, on Saturday, May 25th, 2013, due to the national holiday, there’s no schedule on the healthy menu.
We thank the team who organised the healthy menu and cooked it during May 2013.
Children Scholarship
On this month, the scholarship expenditure in providing the elementary and university students learning materials, including scout uniform, copy, print the school task, also accommodation and contribution for the group schooltask.
On the middle of May 2013, the university student paid the school fee of the 2nd semester after the midtest.
Thank you so much to the facilitators and our friends who would like to support the program regularly. We hope the collaboration will continue well and become the worth provide for the children future.
June 2013 Activity Plans
1. Learning Activities
a. Sewing workshops will be hold at the learning house and the house of Mrs. July Dharmasoeka.
b. The economic generating activity for teenagers and mothers will focus on sewing, making salted egg, and marketing.
2. The Nutrition Improvement Program for Children
a. Preparing the healthy menu and providing milk.
3. Bibliotheque
a. Labeling, covering books and organizing the books on the shelves.
