The Alternate Learning Activities
a. Cakung Children Community
The activity ran well, throughout May 2015.
In the first Friday and the third Saturday of May, we had several days off due to Labor Day, the Ascension of Jesus Christ Day and Isra Mi’raj, the Islamic holiday.
On Saturday, May 2nd, 2015, in the beginning of May, we announced the first quarter report review. We distributed the report to all the children in all categories. We gave price to all the review participants and announced the name of the children who got the highest result in each category. The review score are based on both intellectual and attitude. We believe that these two components are crucial in the development of individual’s character.
Every Tuesday, we hold the craft activity, which is focus on knitting. The knitting product includes hair bands, bandanas and beanie hats. The other craft product is recycling coffee pack. The product includes bags, coasters and hair accessories.
We are grateful to facilitators and the community of Cempaka street, Cakung for their attention and support in collecting the recycling coffee packs. With recycled materials available, we will be able to continuo this craft project.
We accept any recycled materials. In fact, we encourage our friends to donate as many recycling materials. The materials are very useful for this activity. Young girls and mothers can learn and create many wonderful things out of these materials. With this activity, we also support the global movement of reducing, reusing and recycling plastic waste.
b. Muara Baru Children Community
In Muara Baru, we run the learning activity on the second Sunday, May 10th, 2015 and the fourth Sunday, May 24th, 2015.
We divide the participants into two learning groups. Big sister Indri, Yana and Ester accompany them. Due to the construction of the building and learning hall, we still use Ms. Herda’s home to do the activity.
In order to accommodate the community needs and activities, we construct a two levels learning hall.
c. Sarang Tupai Children Community
In Sarang Tupai, regularly, we carry the activity on Monday and Thursday afternoon.
On second Thusday of the month, we had our day off to commemorate the ascension of Jesus Christ.
The number of participants now is around forty students. Since the beginning of May 2015, we had helped from Novi and Geri. They both are teenager from Sarang Tupai with duty to assist the children in first and second category. Big sister Ivonne and Debby still regularly assist the children. Pagi and Cantik are also regularly attending the children after finishing their school.
Little by little, we complete the learning tools such as white board, board eraser, container box to store books and learning equipments. Some children help us raise money by selling the unused donations articles to community with discount price. With that money, they will be able to purchase trash bin and broom.
In fact, we still ask for your kind prayer and financial support. With your support, you give a chance to the children to move forward in achieving their hope and dream,
