The Children Learning Community is very grateful for your support and prayers. All activities ran smoothly throughout the month.
During school break and fasting month, we had fewer participants in all our facilities than regular months.
Most of the July’s activity was filled by art and craft, such as bead works, etc. With beads, participants learned to make bracelets and necklaces. Other art activity is origami. They learned to create, draw and decorate using origami paper. They also learned songs and sang together.
In the beginning of July 2015, for a few days, some Jesuit Brothers stayed in Cakung. They did hands on social analysis by living in the home of farm labors, farmers and scavengers in the community of Cakung and Tambun Rengas.
We thank Rm. Benny, SJ and the Jesuit Brothers for their trust in our program. We believe that this type of social activity has great impact to the Cakung community. We hope that it benefits them as well.
In Sarang Tupai, at the end of school holiday before entering the festive holiday, we had religious activity in form of storytelling. This activity was conducted on Monday, 13 July 2015 and lead by big sister Iyoh. We thank for her attention and support on this type of activity.
We thank all of our friends for their energy, time and finance. We also thank our friends who lend their place for us to do our learning activity.
We thank all big brothers and sisters, the facilitators, volunteers, program coordinators, the community of Cakung, Muara Baru and Sarang Tupai. We also thank big sister Yana, Indri, Ester, Jaka, Ivonne, Novi, Cantik and Pagi in Sarang Tupai. We also thank Mrs Herda in Muara Baru.
We thank Sr.Gertrudis, OSU.for collecting the left over coffee packs.
In order to support our Cakung’s young mothers and girls doing their craft, we gladly accept any recycle materials.
Let us all support the global movement to reduce, reuse and recycle plastic waste.
We thank Sr. Paulina, OSU, a Pondok Damai orphanage coordinator in Kampung Sawah, and her team for donation of children books, children magazines, text books, pencils, school supplies and bibles for Christians in our community.
We gladly accept any donation of children magazines and text books. We gladly accept text books from the kindergarten level all the way up to High school level.
The library team in Cakung, Muara Baru and Sarang Tupai worked very hard to prepare and register all donations books so they could be ready for the children to enjoy.
We thank the library team for their tenacity.
Due to holidays this month, we also only had a few sessions of child nutrition improvement.
In Cakung, we had this activity twice on a few Saturdays this month during break fasting. The menu is rice cake porridge with liquid brown sugar on top and also kolak, coconut milk with steam bananas sweet potatoes.
In Sarang Tupai, we only carried this activity once, on Monday, 13 July 2015. The menu was warm sweet tea with complete rice dish. Children enjoyed this menu during break fasting after listening to religious storytelling.
We thank the coordinator of this child nutrition improvement activity, especially to big sister Indri in Cakung and also to the family of big sister Ivonne who help us prepare those break fasting meals in Sarang Tupai.
The festive holidays for Children Community were started on 15 July and ended on 30 July 2015.
The school holidays were started on the second week of July and ended at the end of July. Some children started their school on Wednesday, 22 July 2015 and some started on Monday, 27 July 2015.
Approaching the academic year 2015-2016, the scholarship recipients prepared their school needs, such as writing tablets, stationaries, uniforms, bags and shoes.
The July expenditure include school supplies, registration fee, text books, transportations, swimming practice fee, photocopies for an university student and English tutor who teach English to the scholarship recipients.
We thank all of our friends who continuously support this scholarship program. Your support brings tremendous blessing for these children. The education that they receive now is a provision for their future. Once again, we thank for your continuous cooperation and dedication to this program.
On Eid al-Fitr day, big sister Vera and I went around the community to greet them. We brought some staple foods which donated by big sister Sari. Some families treat this festive day as a special day to meet and greet their families and friends, but some families has to go back to their farm right after their Eid al-Fitr prayer at the mosque.
In addition to this festive season, we also celebrated the coming of a new baby girl of Asih, an ex-Cakung learning member.
We thank big sister Sari for her donation of staple foods for the community of Cakung. These basic food items helped the community celebrating their festive season. Thank you for your generosity and continuous support. We pray that God will always provide you and your family.
On Tuesday, 21 July 2015, we had Mrs. Noer and her family visited us. She came all the way from Belgium to celebrate her birthday with the children. Her birthday was actually fallen on 18 July 2015. After greeting each other, we had lunch in the learning house together with the children.
We thank Mrs. Noer and her family for this wonderful time. Thank you for your continuous support. We pray that God provide you with happiness and good health.
To fill the school holiday, we had a short motivational seminar for children and sex education for teenagers in both facilities, Sarang Tupai and Cakung. In Sarang Tupai, we held this activity on Saturday, 25 July 2015 at the terrace of learning house. The motivational seminar led by big sister Inayah Gusdur with her Positive Movement team. Meanwhile, the sex education was given by big sister Alvieni.
In order to develop the inner motivation of children, the motivational facilitators delivered the subject in the form of games. Children learned to know themselves and formed teamwork. Children also learned to visual themselves into their future by picking pictures from magazines or newspapers. Later the pictures were cut and pasted to a sheet of hard paper. The children also did some sports to lift up their spirit.
After this motivational activity and lunch, the activity continues with sex education. The teenagers learned to recognize their body and to learn their physical development. The objectives are to develop responsible teenagers and to produce mentally and physically healthy adults.
The whole activity ended in late afternoon. Together with the motivational facilitators, we took pictures. And after that, we closed the activity.
We thank big sister Alvieni, Inayah Gusdur and the facilitators of Positive Movement. Your guidance was an eye opener for the teenagers of Cakung and Sarang Tupai. We hope that these teenagers will grow well and become responsible young adults. We also hope that you will continue to support us with other programs ahead.
The August 2015 activity plan:
1. Learning Activity
a. To celebrate the independence day of the Republic of Indonesia, 17 August 2015, we will have several games which placed on the terrace of Sarang Tupai facility. We will be conducting this event on 24 August 2015.
b. We will be having the 2nd Quarter review for all the children of Cakung and Sarang Tupai at the end of August 2015. We plan to complete our Sarang Tupai facility with the learning equipment such as table for learning and pinned board for newsletter.
2. Library Activity
a. Continue to reregister the 2010 collection, prepare the 2011 collection for mandatory reading and register the new 2015 arrival books.
b. Equip library supplies for books registration purpose, such as stationary, book cover, etc.
3. Child Nutrition Improvement Activity
a. Food purchase for the healthy menu plan and grocery purchase for the needed cooking utensils.
4. Scholarship
a. Fulfill the recipients’ school needs.
At the end, we thank all of you, our friends, who throughout this month have relentlessly supported us, the children learning community, with your prayers, presence, material and financial donations.
We are deeply touched to many of our donors who give their full attention and priority to other people needs over their own. We truly appreciate your trust in our efforts.
