Progress Report of Children Learning Community in March 2016

Dear friends,

We wish you a Happy Easter for those who celebrate this holy event.
Let Christ’s resurrection revive our faith and renew our spirit to persevere His compassionate legacy

We are grateful to God and to our loyal friends who supported the activity of children learning community throughout March 2016.

In the middle of March 2016, on Satuday, 12 March 2016, we had visitation from a family of Gabby with big sister Lucy. The purpose of this visit was to celebrate the blessings that Gabby’s parents received in the past. They provided and ate lunch with the children.

That afternoon, the children got acquaintance, sang together and enjoyed their lunch with the guests. The children packed the small room. It was stuffy. So, Gabby’s father ran and purchased a large fan. We were ecstatic to receive such a gift. A large fan was what we wanted.

We were glad and grateful for what we received. We extended our big thank to Gabby’s family and big sister Lucy for their generosity and attention to us.

May God continue to give peace and happiness among you. May God grant Gabby’s father, mother and siblings a healthy family life.

The Cakung and Sarang Tupai’s learning activity ran well. We had four new comers in category zero and four at Cakung and three new comers in category zero and two at Sarang Tupai.

The craft skill of Sarang Tupai’s children progressively improved. The teenagers and young mothers enjoyed doing handicraft out of recycle coffee bags. We plan to add more hours and resources into this program. So far, we are now in the process evaluating the participant’s interest and dedication in this program before taking any action.

On the first Saturday of April, a few days after Easter, we had Easter eggs decoration activity. At this time, we had children from category zero; one and two did the decoration. And soon after the category three and four’s children finished their studying, they also helped decorate the eggs. Obviously, the healthy menu in the beginning of April was decorated hard boiled eggs. Children enjoyed eating them.

As usual, in the beginning of the month, we reviewed the Cakung and the Sarang Tupai children’s attendance, learning spirit and their saving habit. We rewarded the children who did well.

We thank facilitators, volunteers and surrounding community who relentlessly gave their time, efforts, finances and place for this learning program. We thank Jaka, big sister Lucy, big brother Bosco and Frances in Cakung. We also thank big sister Ivonne, Novi, Cantik and Pagi in Sarang Tupai, Megamendung, Ciawi.

Throughout March 2016, for healthy diet, we served fruits such as snake fruit and watermelon as well as milk. In Sarang Tupai where was colder and wet, we served jam toast or cookies with hot tea.

On Monday, 14 March 2016, we celebrate the birthday of big sister Ivonne in Sarang Tupai, Ciawi. The children made some pancakes and puddings. In addition to them, we also served beef ball rice noodle for the children.

Big sister Ivonne was moved by the birthday wish and special treats from the children.

We thanked the children of Sarang Tupai for their genuine conviction to use the community learning center as their place to improve. We started our activity in Sarang Tupai last year and last month was our one year anniversary.

We thank big sister Ivonne and family for time and their genuine heart in providing us with the place to play and learn.

We, finally thank to facilitators, the nutritious improvement coordinators in Sarang Tupai as well as in Cakung. We also thank big sister Ivonne and her family who prepare and serve the healthy meal in Sarang Tupai.

Our library received donation of books from big sister Lestari and Anita Linggar. We also received recycle coffee bags from the community of Ursulin sisterhood, Juanda and big sister Lucy.

The March 2016’s school expenditure includes internet fee, monthly school fee, school transport and extracurricular transport.

There was a student who needs to take his midterm with the requirement that he had to pay his school fee up to April. We decided to pay it up at the end of March 2016.

We are grateful to our friends who continuously provide their financial support for this scholarship program. This scholarship’s support is extremely valuable for the children’s future.

Action Plan April 2016 :

1. Learning Activity
a. Learning review in Cakung on the 5th week of April 2016.
b. Craft skill knitting for girls and young mothers.
c. Writing competition to observe Kartini day, the celebration of women’s right. The writing entries will be posted on Sarang Tupai News Board.
d. Participate on a free mass male circumcision, a mandatory Moslem’s law for every Moslem’s male, at the Kolose Kanisius campus in Menteng, Jakarta. The alumni Kanisius Kolose High School sponsor this event which will happen in the 4th week of April 2016.

2. The Children Nutrition Improvement
a. Preparing healthy menu and purchase needed cooking utensils.

3. Scholarship
a. Fulfilling school needs for all recipients.

At the end, we thank many of our friends for their support in prayers, finances, efforts and learning tools. This month learning activity ran well because of your support.

We are deeply touched by many of our donors’ generosity. They prioritized others than themselves. We truly appreciate your trust in our efforts.

We thank the community of sisterhood Ursulin, Juanda, big sister Anita Linggar, Ms.Lestari, and Lucy for your plentiful material donations.

The surplus of material donations were given to Pst. Patrice Jeujan, MSC for his work with the community in East Indonesia.

We express many thanks to all of our generous donors for your financial commitment in supporting the operation of this learning program. We thank Ms. Jeanny; Mrs Djiauw Swie Tjing; big sister Sofia Erlinda Indra; Mrs. Hanaria Putri; Gabby and his family; the family of Mr. Wilfridus Leba; and also Mr. David for his kindness in translating monthly report regularly.
