Progress Report of Children Learning Community in June 2016

Dear friends,

www.taziex.biz
Happy Ied Al Fitr to all our Moeslem’s friends.

The Children Learning Community is very grateful for your supports and prayers. All activities in Cakung and Sarang Tupai ran smoothly throughout the month of June 2016.

There were lesser activities than usual. The Sarang Tupai’s teenagers prefer to spend their time reading fiction and nonfiction books. Meanwhile, the smaller children enjoy their playing time after studying. They use the learning home’s yard as well as the study hall for playing. In the study hall, the children played board games such as Snake and Ladder; Halma; “Ludo” and Scrabble. The children also practice their English by singing songs.

In Cakung, we filled the activity with watching learning video together. We announced that there will be questions afterward. Whoever answers the question correctly will get the prize. This is to motivate children to watch the video thoroughly. Some children happily pick up their prize after answering the questions correctly.

Young girls and mothers were selling own make cookies and handmade greeting cards as part of their economic improvement activity. The profit of this venture will go to the operational fund of learning center.

In the end of June, the children had their off days. The purpose is to give them a few days off during their school year break and holiday seasons.

We thank facilitators, volunteers and surrounding community who relentlessly gave their time, efforts, finances and place for this learning program. We thank Jaka, Ester and Ondo in Cakung. We also thank big sister Ivonne, Novi, Cantik, Rachel and Pagi in Sarang Tupai, Megamendung, Ciawi.

In the beginning of June, before the Moeslem’s fasting month, the alumni of Kolose Kanisius High School held children circumcision activity, an Islamic ritual for Moeslem boys.

In Cakung they held this circumcision procedure on Saturday morning, 4th of June 2016 at Mitra Warga Medika Medical Clinic in Kayu Tinggi Road. Ten children were participated in this event. They were accompanied by their parents.

The circumcision procedure went well. Only one child cried and refused to proceed with the procedure.

We prepared breakfast for the participants and their parents; and also presents for each child.

The procedure started at 10 am. And to ease their feeling of discomfort after procedure, we hired public transportation to take the children to their home.

On the day of the procedure, we gave the children a day off from learning. It gave time to prepare the children to face their fasting month and to let the Elementary School Children enjoyed their yearend break.

In Sarang Tupai, they held this circumcision procedure on Thursday morning, 9th of June 2016 at Ms. Ivonne’s home. Thirteen children were participated in this event. They were accompanied by their parents.

Although there were twelve children registered. But at the end of the day, we end up with thirteen participants. There was one additional participant.

Mrs. Ivonne and her family prepare a small room for the procedure. Dr. Lutfi assisted this procedure. The teenagers assisted with registration, gave sarong and after surgery underpants. After the procedure, the teenagers helped distributing presents to the children. It was a way to turn their children attention from their discomfort feeling after procedure.

We were overwhelmed with these events. There was no nurse available to help the doctor during procedure. Most of the children only accompany by their mother who was not strong enough to calm their children during procedure. Some parents also refuse to help because they cannot handle to see the procedure on other children beside theirs.

This is our first event of this kind. We were grateful for the idea and support from the alumni of Kolose Kanisius High School.

We also would like to thank our friends for their care and attention. We hope that our collaboration will continue further.

We have scheduled a break time for the children circumcision activity which was before the fasting month begins. We filled a day of learning break time with this event.

We served the healthy menu on break fasting time.

The healthy menu is served for the younger children. Meanwhile, the older children and teenagers got take home meals.

We served varieties of healthy dish and drinks for Cakung and Sarang Tupai’s children. There were “Cucur”, deep fried rice cake with palm sugar; young coconut water with ice; coconut water with palm fruits; cookies; fruit cocktail; “kolak”, coconut milk mix with banana and palm sugar; and “es cendol”, pulpy rice mix with ice and coconut milk.

We thank all facilitators and the nutritious improvement team in Sarang Tupai as well as in Cakung. We also thank big sister Ivonne and her family who prepare and serve the healthy meal in Sarang Tupai.

The school expenditure is more than usual. Throughout June 2016, we have to pay for reregistered fee, monthly fee and text books for some students in non-state school.

We proposed some Sarang Tupai’s children for scholarship. A Sarang Tupai’s student applied for Vocational High School. There was also a Cakung’s student who registered for a new school. After registered, he needed to prepare for school’s needs such as writing tablet, school stationary, school uniform, boy scout uniform, soccer’s shoes, etc.

We also provided the students with internet fee, school material’s photocopies and school transportation allowance.

We are grateful to our friends who continuously provide their financial support for this scholarship program. This scholarship’s support is extremely valuable for the children’s future.
