Progress Report of Children Learning Community in July 2016

Dear friends,

The Children Learning Community is very grateful for your supports and prayers. All activities in Cakung and Sarang Tupai ran smoothly throughout the month of July 2016.

Following the children’s school calendar, we started our learning activities, one week after the celebration of Ied Al Fitr, the moeslem’s festive holiday.

In Sarang Tupai, the activity was started on Monday, the 18th of July. And in Cakung, the activity was started on Friday, 22nd of July 2016.

On the first day, there were only several children showed up for learning in Cakung as well as in Sarang Tupai. That day, we ran the activity a little bit loose in order to give time for the children to recover from their long holidays.

But the day after, some children started to come back especially when we announced our learning plan. We announced the learning plan for stage 3 and stage 4 in the beginning of August. We also announced the outdoor activities for all children in the middle of August 2016.

We thank facilitators, volunteers and surrounding community who relentlessly gave their time, efforts, finances and place for this learning program. We thank Jaka and Ester in Cakung. We also thank big sister Ivonne, Novi, Cantik and Pagi in Sarang Tupai, Megamendung, Ciawi.

During the time of Ied Al Fitr holiday, we visited our Cakung’s moeslem neighbors. The traffic congestions in and out Jakarta through Ciawi during major holidays hindered us to come to Sarang Tupai. We decided to visit Sarang Tupai after holidays.

In the middle of July, on Friday, the 15th of July 2016, Firman, one of the scholarship’s recipients, started his new experience by moving to boarding school.

Firman who lives alone since the passing of his grandmother last January, is now living among friends around his age. He is also supervised by capable mentors.

Children went back to school on Monday, the 18th of July 2016. On that same day, most of schools from Elementary to High School were also started their activity.

We had to fulfill many school’s needs such as writing tablets and stationaries as well as reregistration fee. In Sarang Tupai, the amount of school needs increase concurrent to the increase of the number of scholarship recipients.

We are grateful to our friends who continuously provide their financial support for this scholarship program. This scholarship’s support is extremely valuable for the children’s future.

After fasting period, we served varieties of healthy menu for Cakung’s children as well as Sarang Tupai’s children. There were fruits such as snake fruit, banana as well as milk cookies.

We thank facilitators, the Cakung’s and Sarang Tupai’s nutritious food improvement coordinators and the family of big sister Ivonne who helps preparing and serving healthy food.

August 2016 Plan :

1. Learning Activity

a. We will be having environment awareness presentation in title “The era of water preservation” on Saturday, 6th of August 2016. The presentation is for stage 3 and 4 children. It will be presented by “Joy of Children organization”.
b. We will be having yearly outdoor gathering on Friday, 12th August 2016, in Cibodas national garden. The Cakung and Sarang Tupai’s children will identify varieties of plants and draw their leaves
c. We will be having mentoring for farmers’ children on August 2016. This activity supposed to be on July. It was postponed till August 2016.
d. We will be selling our recycling craft which were produced by teenagers and mothers on the 26th and the 27th of August 2016 at Saint Mary’s School Bazaar in Juanda road.

2. Child Nutrition Improvement

a. Preparing nutritious menu and purchase needed cooking utensils.

3. Scholarship

a. Fulfilling school needs for longtime and new recipients.

At the end, we thank many of our friends for their prayers, financial donations, efforts and material donations. This month learning activity ran well because of your support.

We are deeply touched by many of our donors’ generosity. They prioritized others than themselves. We truly appreciate your trust in our efforts.

Since the learning facility’s rent will end in November 2016, therefore we need to stress our effort in collecting the rent. The collection’s effort has begun. It should be going for a few months.

Your supports will help us extend the facility’s rent for the next two years. The amount needed is 24 million IDR.

We thank the community of sisterhood Ursulin, Juanda for donation of recycles coffee bags and Mr. David for your support in translating the progress report regularly.

We express many thanks to all of our donors for your financial commitment. With your generous donations, we are able to operate this learning program further.
