Progress Report of Children Learning Community on June 2013


Dear friends,

Happy Isra Mi’raj 1434 H for those who celebrate it.

On June 2013, the learning activities could run well, although on the 2nd Saturday of June 2013, to be exact, on June 8th, 2013, we didn’t hold the learning activity. It was because of the father of Firman passed away. Firman is one of the scholarship students, who stay at the learning house with his grandma.

Since two weeks ago, his father sick, and has taking care by his mother at the learning house. Firman’s father is one of the marginal children, whose living at the side of Cakung Cilincing highway near Philips company. Kak Debby facilitated the children from 1997 to 2002. A week after, Firman’s father hospitalized at Persahabatan Hospital using Jakarta Medical Card, which Jakarta government administration issued for the people who cannot afford their medical fee. On Saturday morning, June 8th, 2013, Dadi; Firman’s father passed away. Almost all facilitator were busy to handle everything at the hospital, the musholla, near his wife’s house, and the funeral. A facilitator has to bring Firman there, where his grandma waiting for him. Finally, the learning activity on that day was off.

We give condolence to Firman’s family and pray for Dadi in God’s mercy and for his rest in peace in God’s hand. We thanked for friends who give support during Dadi’s hospitalized, especially to Ms. Josepha Dua Donna, Ms. Tata, and Mas IBE Karyanto. Thank you very much to the big family of Firman’s grandma who also supported during Dadi’s hospitalized until the 7th day of his passing. May God bless your kindness and sincere to help others whom in need.

While the learning activity began, we declared Firman’s father passing to the children and apologized for postponing it. On that day, the children learned to express their symphaty by shaking Firman’s hand, giving condolence to him and his grandma. A day after, based on our deal, the children savings were for Firman, and after that, he give it to his grandma.

Alternative Learning Activities

a. Cakung Children Community


The schedule of sewing workshop during May 2013 was not being hold because of the difficulty adjusting right time for the participants and the facilitator, Mrs. July.

On early June 2013, to be exact, on Saturday morning, June 1st, 2013, some participants of sewing workshop followed the activity at the learning house. On that day, the participants learned to make flowers from flannel and rag. The workshop was from morning til the beginning of the learning activity for all categories approach.

We are grateful and thankful to Mrs. July for giving opportunity to the participants learning. We hope the collaboration will continue well.

On early June, to be exact, on Saturday, June 1st, 2013, we have a new facilitator, Ms. Gaby who would like to assist the children in learning Mathematics, especially for the children on the 2nd and the 3rd categories.

The children were glad for having a new facilitator. They were so entusiasthic learning Mathematics. For Ms. Gaby, it’s the first time for her to assist the children learning. Although it was clumsy at first, she could integrated within the children.

During this month, the life-skill activity every Wednesday, focuses on sewing. We learn from the books and also from the internet.

We hope the facilities that we own and the skill that has learned, enable us to develop through the economic generating program from the sewing creation.

b. The Muara Baru Community


The learning activities are held on the 1st, the 3rd , and the 5th Sunday on June 2013.

We learn in three groups, the first for the preschool who couldn’t read, write, and count fluently. Second, for the children who begin to know letters and learn to spell, and the last for the children who could read, write, and count. They are in the 4th grade of primary school and above. The first group with Ms. Indri, while the second group with Ms. Debby, and the last group wants to learn Bahasa Indonesia using scrabble. We give it a task, to write every words that they make and write in sentence. Every children made six words and completed in six sentences.

We are so glad to see the children enthusiasm and more children involved in learning activity. We hope it become the best saving to fulfill their future.

We thank all the collaborative works between the facilitators, the volunteers, the children, and the residents of Cakung and Muara Baru, especially to Mrs. Herda at Muara Baru, Ms. Lisa, Ms. Henni, Ms. Qori’ah, Ms. Gaby, Indri, Riska, Lisna, and the children coordinator program.

Bibliotheque

The activities of this month were labeling and covering the books donation which already registered. We purchased some life-skill books as reference. We registered them on the 3rd Wednesday on June 2013.

On Saturday, June 29th, 2013, we received some reading books, crayon, and colouring books from Jessica, Jason, dan Justin. The reading books will registered as the library collection, while crayon and colouring books will used for the children’s learning activity every Friday and Saturday.

We are grateful to Jessica, Jason, dan Justin for book supporting. We will use the donation carefully on behalf of the knowledge and skill development of the children creatifity. We hope the collaboration will continue well and become the worth provide for the children future.

The library administrative activities were on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday on June 2013.

We thank for the attention and the perseverance of the team.

Nutrition Improvement Program for Children


On June 2013, the program could run well.
Besides drinking milk, the healthy menu on this month were hard-boiled egg, spinach soup with corn, and banana.

On the 1st Saturday on June 2013, the usual menu was hard-boiled egg. The children used to eat in group organized by the children of the 3rd category to ease them in collect the eggshell. The children usually eat egg with salt or soysauce.

On the 2nd Saturday on June 2013, the healthy menu was spinach soup with corn, but we cancelled it and become the healthy menu on the 3rd Saturday on June 2013.

On the 4th Saturday on June 2013, banana became the healthy menu. Every kids have two to three small size banana, ‘cause the nearby market just provide one kind of banana, so we bought many to fulfill the children nutrition.

On the 5th Saturday on June 2013, the hard-boiled egg became the healthy menu again for all the children.

We thank the team who organised the healthy menu and cooked it during June 2013 and special thanks to the facilitators who lend a hand during preparation.

Children Scholarship

On this month, the scholarship expenditure in providing the elementary and university students learning materials, including copy, print the school task, TOEFL fee, and also accommodation.

On mid June 2013, the elementary student followed the national examination and have the school report at the end of June 2013. Firman, one of the scholarship student has promoted in school to the second grade of primary school. His marks are better than the marks on the 1st semester.

While the scholarship student in the university, still in the 2nd semester until the end of June 2013. On the 1st week of July 2013, it is a week of student preparation before the final 2nd semester examination.

Thank you so much to the facilitators and our friends who would like to support the program regularly. We hope the collaboration will continue well and become the worth provide for the children’s future.

July 2013 Activity Plans

1. Learning Activities


a. The annual out-door activity at Science and Technology Demonstration Centre, Indonesian Miniature Park on Saturday, July 6th, 2013 from 09.00 AM til 04.00 PM.
b. The economic generating activity for teenagers and mothers are still focusing on sewing for the children of the 3rd category and the mothers, also making salted egg, and marketing.

2. The Nutrition Improvement Program for Children

a. Preparing the healthy menu and providing milk.

3. Bibliotheque

a. Covering books and organizing the books on the shelves.

We are gladly welcoming our friends for donation and material support (such as subsistance) for the children out-door activity at Science and Technology Demonstration Centre, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (Indonesian Miniature Park) on Saturday, July 6th, 2013.

As the beginning school year approach, we welcome our friends for the support of student books from primary until university, notebooks, and stationeries.
