Progress Report of Children Learning Community on January 2014

Happy Lunar New Year 2565 for you all who celebrate it.
We wish you have peace, many prosperous, and joy in the year of horse.


On January 2014, the learning activities could run well. The children, the team and I are so grateful for your prayer and support.

After the evaluation of the program 2013 and the planning of the program 2014, we began the early year 2014 with the hand over ceremony from the team of 2013 to the team of 2014 on Saturday, January 4th, 2014. After that, the new team prepared and presesented the program activities of 2014. Although it was just rolling the task for the children, there is a new child who would like to take in charge in the library program as the coordinator. She is Amel who got involved to help the team since last year.


The team who run the program activities of 2014 are :

I. Academic Activities
a. The children in charge of saving activity : Tia, Nia
b. The children in charge of cleaning the house & the children : Tia, Kiki, Nia.
c. The children in charge of picking up the children : Amel, Mayang
d. Facilitators of the children of the 0 category : Ondo, Ester
e. Facilitators of the children of the 1st category : Kak Uju, Mrs. Mar’ah
f. Facilitator of the children of the 2nd category : Kak Indri
g. Facilitators of the children of the 3rd category : Kak Debby, Kak Qori’ah

II. Program Activities
a. Coordinator of the library program : Amel

b. Coordinator of the children nourishment improvement program : Mayang
The team : Kiki, Amel, Nia, Tia
c. Coordinator of the children scholarship : Indri
d. Coordinator of the teenager & mother’s income generating ‘Usaha Mandiri’ : Yana
The team : Riska, Mrs. Sutini, Indri, Debby

III. Administrative Program

Treasurer : Kak Indri

We hope the team of the program 2014 could run the task well.


On Monday, January 13th, 2014, there were 10 students with the teacher of De Britto High School, from Yogyakarta. They had school task to live-in exposure in Cakung from Monday, January 13th, 2014 til Friday, January 17th, 2014. We picked up the children and their teacher in the morning and in the midday, they stayed and start the activities with the residents of Cakung. Every child stayed in a family.

On Friday, January 17th, 2014, we rent a car to take the children and the teacher back to the house of Atmabrata, Cilincing, where all the students who have been placed in East and North Jakarta gathered.

Thank you very much to the students and the teacher who would like to learn and stay with the ordinary people in Cakung. Thank you very much to Pater Yohanes and the co-workers of De Britto High School, Yogyakarta for your trust and support. We hope the cooperation could sustain well.

The hard rain for few days on mid January 2014 made the long traffic jam and flood everywhere. After the children learning day, we spent the time to visit the residents in Cakung field area, near the old learning house. Flood in Cakung field area and in the gang masjid was in the adult’s knee height on Friday, January 17th, 2014.


On Sunday, January 19th, 2014, a local leader in Muara Baru contacted us few times and gave the news that her area was in big flood. In the afternoon, we visited there and brought some groceries for the residents.


At night, we wrote a short email for finding support for the residents in flood disaster. For a week after, the activities focused on helping the residents in Muara Baru, Cakung, and some area in West Java. We will send the report of flood disaster separately.


Thank you very much to the friends who would like to support the people in flood disaster in Cakung, Muara Baru, and other areas in West Java.

On Friday, January 24th, 2014, we had a sad news, Kak Meltari’s Mother’s passed away. Kak Meltari is one of the volunteer in Cakung. We visited her and her family few days after.

We feel deep condolence for Kak Meltari’s Mother’s passed away. May God give her absolution and rest in peace of heaven and may God give the strength for the family.

Alternative Learning Activities


After the evaluation of curriculum 2013 and the preparation of curriculum 2014, the activities of January 2014 began with the determination of the children participants in each category. Not all the children participant who are in the early category could be in the higher category. Through the curriculum evaluation with all facilitators, some children could not be in the higher category based on the intellectual competence and mentally development.

a. Cakung Children Community

The learning activity is begun on Friday, January 10th, 2014, followed by 16 children while on Saturday, January 11th, 2014 followed by 30 children.

We are glad that in the early year of 2014, the children are still keep in spirit to learn although the location is far enough for them. The team have task to pick them up. There are some new boys in the neighbourhood who follow the learning activities.

The life-skill activity has begun since Wednesday, January 8th, 2014. On January 2014, the activity focused on recycled material and paper quilling creations.

We are gladly receiving your plastic garbages for supporting the income generating program for the teenagers and the mothers of Children Learning Community. Together we move the action of reduce, reuse, and recycled the plastic garbages.

On Friday, January 31st, 2014, the learning activity was off during the Lunar New Year holiday. We held the program evaluation in the afternoon.

b. Muara Baru Community

The learning activities are held on Sunday, January 12th, 2014 and Sunday, January 26th, 2014.

A week before the flood disaster, the learning activity is held in the learning hall, facilitated by Ms. Indri and Ms. Yana, while on the 4th Sunday of January 2014, the learning activity facilitated by Ms. Indri and Ms. Debby.

When the flood disaster in Muara Baru happened, we visited either in the place where the children learning, or Kebun Tebu and Tembok Bolong area.

The children and Mrs. Herda as the local leader were thankful for all the attention and support, also the residents in Kebun Tebu and Tembok Bolong via Mrs. Tarini as the local leader there.

We thank all the collaborative works of the facilitators, the volunteers, the children, and the residents of Cakung and Muara Baru, especially to Mrs. Herda and Mrs. Tarini at Muara Baru, Ms. Qori’ah, Ms. Uju, Mrs. Mar’ah, Mrs. Sutini, Indri, Yana, and the children coordinator programs.

Bibliotheque

The library activity is begun with the reregistration of the library books of 2009 until 2013. For two months, the library schedule is re-registration the library books.

The library activities were run well supported by the team who would like to spend some nights in the house of learning.

We thank for the attention, support, and the perseverance of the coordinator and her team, who faithfully spending the time to do the task.

Nutrition Improvement Program for Children



On January 2014, the program could run well.

Besides drinking milk every Saturday, the healthy menus were hard-boiled egg, snakefruits (salak), and egg – tofu soysauce (semur tahu telur).

Based on the evaluation of the program 2013, in 2014, the healthy menus will be given on Saturday and Friday by turns.

The healthy menu on the second Saturday of January 2014 was hard-boiled egg, which usually eaten with soyasauce or sprinkle salt. The healthy menu on the third Friday of January 2014 was snakefruit (salak), as the perfect time harvest in this rainy season.

On the fourth Saturday of January 2014, the team prepared egg – tofu soysauce (semur tahu telur).

The children like these menus very much, moreover in the rainy season.

We thank the team who organised the healthy menu and cooked it during January 2014 and special thanks to the facilitators who lend a hand during preparation.

Children Scholarship

On this month, the scholarship expenditures were in providing the elementary and university students learning materials, including sheets, stationeries, student books, printer inks, and internet pulse for modem, the fee of credits in the 3rd semester of a university student and also the students weekly accommodation.

At the end of the week of January 2014, a university student followed the last examination of the 3rd semester.

We are so grateful to our friends who would like to support the program regularly. We hope the collaboration will continue well and become the worth provide for the children’s future.

February 2014 Activity Plans

1. Learning Activities

a. The learning activity run every Friday and Saturday from 12 PM til 3.30 PM.
b. The life-skill activity run every Wednesday from day til afternoon in the learning house will focus on recycled material and paper quilling creations.
c. The sewing workshop will begin in the end of the week of February 2014.

2. The Nutrition Improvement Program for Children
a. Providing the healthy menu and purchasing milk, also providing the kitchenware.

3. Bibliotheque
a. Re-registering the library books of 2009 until 2013.

4. Others
a. Hair cut day for the children and the residents of Cakung on Saturday morning, February 15th, 2014 at the house of learning in Cakung, supported by Mrs. Wulan and her team of Puspita Martha, Sari Ayu Martha Tilaar.
