Progress Report of Children Learning Community in April 2016

Dear friends,

The Children Learning Community is very grateful for your supports and prayers. All activities ran smoothly throughout the month of April 2016.

We celebrated “Kartini Day”, the commemoration of woman rights’ hero, with simple cooking, writing competition, craft, drawing and sketching competition. We had cooking competition in Sarang Tupai because the children in that area were eager to learn cooking. At home, they used to help their parents doing house chores including taking care of their little siblings. Besides cooking, we also had poetry and writing competition with the theme of “Kartini” . For little children, we had craft competition, and also drawing and sketching competition.

We judge cooking competition on taste, presentation and creativity. The best tasting food is “Misro”, fried cassava stuffed with palm sugar, which were made by Aldi and Neldi. The most creative food is fried mash cassava stuffed with slice of chicken. The food was made by Fitri and Marina. We had two winners on food presentation. They were “papais or ketimus”, steam cassava stuffed with palm sugar, made by Sutisna and Raffly; and “Nagasari”, rice cake stuffed with banana, made by Maria and Yohanes.

We announced the winner on the same day but gave the price on the following day.

We decided for the next healthy menu, we will prepare the menu from the winner combine with our own regular menu.

On Saturday, 23 April 2016, we gathered in commemoration of the three years passing of big sister Sarah. We did the prayer for late big sister Sarah and her loving family after the children finishes their study. The prayer was recited by Firman. At the same time, we also remembered the six years passing of big sister Chichie on 22 April 2016 and 100 days of passing of Ibu Wasti, Firman’s grandmother on 15 April 2016.

We prayed for big sister Sarah, Chichie and Bu Wasti. May their soul rest in peace in the house of the Lord. We keep many sweet memories and good deeds of their life in our heart.

We thank the Laftavis and the Tonteys who encourage us to do this prayer gathering. They prepare snacks, stationaries, toiletries and special fund for it.

May the Lord protect the soul of big sister Sarah and pour His abundant blessings and peace to Mr and Mrs Laftavi and also to Mr and Mrs Tontey.

The alumni of Kolese Kanisius postponed their activity on the Moslem ritual of boy’s circumcision. The free mass circumcision activity was moved from April to June 2016. Boys who are interested can put their name for this event. Several boys from Cakung and Sarang Tupai were listed.

At the end of April 2016, we reviewed the 1st quarter lesson for Cakung’s facility. About thirty children involved in this reviewing process. And for those who were not participate, we still conducted regular lessons. We prepared the price for the highest score and for those who making better progress on their attitude toward learning. Compiling the review and distributing price were given on that same day.

We thank facilitators, volunteers and surrounding community who relentlessly gave their time, efforts, finances and place for this learning program. We thank Jaka, Ester, Ondo, big sister Lucy, big brother Bosco and Frances in Cakung. We also thank big sister Ivonne, Novi and Cantik in Sarang Tupai, Megamendung, Ciawi.

Throughout April 2016, for healthy diet, we served fruits such as snake fruit, “rambutan” and watermelon as well as milk and cookies. We also served “bangkoang”, white turnip with liquid palm sugar dip. The teenagers also made cake and fried banana covered with chocolate.

We thank all facilitators and the nutritious improvement team in Sarang Tupai as well as in Cakung. We also thank big sister Ivonne and her family who prepare and serve the healthy meal in Sarang Tupai.

The school’s expenditure in April includes purchasing of Vocational High School’s text book for this semester, transportation allowance to distance extracurricular facility, internet and monthly school fee.

The scholarship’s recipients who attend technical and regular High School received their mid semester report card.

It is a custom to wear traditional Indonesian’s attire to school during “Kartini” day. Despite of that, one of the Elementary students who are a scholarship recipient chooses to wear army uniform to school. We purchase the miniature army uniform for him.
