Progress Report of Children Learning Community in June 2018

We won’t make our differences deter us. Hand in hand, we nurture the spirit of humanity for peaceful world.   

We were grateful to God and to our loyal friends who supported the children learning community activities throughout June 2018. The activities were smoothly ran at both Cakung’s and Sarang Tupai, Ciawi’s facility.

During the fasting month, the learning activity began at 2 pm. Decreasing attendance during fasting month did not deter the children’s learning spirit. With facilitators, children learned as usual. 

Children learned and played. They played scrabble; monopoly; Chinese checkers, and snakes and ladders. 

During Moeslem’s holiday, a few Cakung’s older children went home from their Moeslem’s school at their home village in Central Java. When they got back, they immediately came to Cakung’s facility and helped the younger children.

Big sister Tia is one of the children who came back to helped her juniors. Big sister Tia attended Cakung’s facility since she was a toddler learning to read and count. She is now helping the children in English.

We are glad to have big sister Tia and big brother Kiki back in Cakung’s facility. We are grateful for the present of these two siblings. They are a big help for the children. 

Big sister Vera who will be placed in Papua also took her time in helping the children.

Big sister Vera has helped the children in the old facility at Cakung Sawah. She was big sister Tia’s facilitator back then. 

During the month of June, beside big sister Tia, Vera and big brother Kiki, we also have other helps. Mrs. Mar’ah, Yohana, big sister Indri, and big sister Debby helped the Cakung’s children. Mrs. Lanny, Mrs. Ruth, Mrs. Tjandra,  Novi, Rachel, and big sister Debby helped the Sarang Tupai’s children.

We thank facilitators, volunteers and surrounding community who relentlessly gave their time, efforts, finances and place for this learning program.

In the first week of June, Mr. Arif and big sister Dara prepared dinner for Cakung’s children and facilitators for breakfasting time.

Mr. Arif and big sister Dara came to Cakung’s facility a few minutes before breakfasting time.

A longtime friend of Cakung’s children learning community, Mr. Arif and family have always supported our activities. He was there at the beginning of our activity at Cakung Sawah.  And until this day, he still visits us.

Children happily chatted with Mr.Arif and big sister Sara before breakfasting time. After having dinner, the children and Mr. Arif’s family took a group photo. 

Children were grateful to Mr. Arif and his family. They enjoyed warm company and delicious dinner.

We wish our friendship would last for a long time.

In the third week of June 2018, to celebrate an Ied Al Fitr, a Moeslem festive seasons, we gave the children a break. Most of Cakung’s and Sarang Tupai’s children are Moeslems.  And they celebrate this festive season.

Some families took their seasonal pilgrimage going back to their home village celebrating this festive season with their relatives.

Some Cakung’s facilitator took their time visiting our community here in Cakung on the big day.

Since most of Jakartans went back to their home village and home town during holiday, the street of Jakarta looked very empty. The conditions were reversed when we were trying to go to Sarang Tupai or out of town.  The roads were congested. A few days before the big day, the roads were filled.

Facilitators got to see the Sarang Tupai, Ciawi’s community after holiday during learning session.  

In the fourth week of June 2018, Cakung’s children had a chance to enjoy their holiday at Ancol theme park.

To commemorate the anniversary of the city of Jakarta, the Ancol theme park offered free one day passes, only on Monday, the 25^th June 2018 to holiday visitors.

We took advantage of this offer. We took some active and diligent children as prize for their hard work to Ancol.

There are 22 persons came, including the children, their parents and several Cakung’s facilitators.

With the help of Mr. Arif and his family, we rented transportations and bought some food to add into our lunch.

Children were excited swimming at Ancol beach and playing at the art market park. 

The children were truly grateful for the attention and support from Mr. Arif, Mrs. Maria and family.

We pray for Mr. Arif and Mrs. Maria health and financial blessing. We wish for further work together.  

On Wednesday, 27^th July 2018, the Ciawi’s facilitator got their chance to vote for West Java Governor and Vice Governor.

In Sarang Tupai, the electoral office selected their voting booth at the villa. We have been using this villa as our learning place. Holil family have attended the villa for some time. 

Sarang Tupai’s children had their break that day.

In June, the scholarship’s recipients graduated from Elementary, Middle School, High School and Vocational High School. Others moved up to the next grade. 

Several graduates continued their studies. Some decided to quit school and work. 

There is one recipient who decided to continue their education in Jakarta. We helped with partial school expenses. 

We provided recipients’ school needs such as uniforms, text books, and writing tablets. This was to anticipate the price hike at the starting of the school year.

Several high school and vocational high school recipients have graduated. They are no longer in the recipients list.  But there are some new ones in middle school level.

We thank loyal donors who relentlessly providing us with scholarship assistance. Your support is valuable for these children’s future.

Throughout June 2018, we prepared various healthy meals for Cakung’s and Sarang Tupai’s children. We prepared dumpling; noodle fruit salad; bake rice and dates; fruit cocktail; fried corn vegetables; cookies; beef ball noodle and fried rice noodle seafood with peanut sauce.  

The Cakung children thanked Mr. Arif and Mrs.Dara for providing the children on breakfasting meal and bake rice. The Sarang Tupai’s children also thanked Mrs. Tjandra for baking them cookies.  

We also thank the facilitators and the community of Cakung and Sarang Tupai for preparing healthy meals throughout June 2018.

“Kartini” cooperative effort ran well. Community spared their time to purchase their grocery at the cooperative after learning session. Since May 2018, the cooperative’s organizer bought supplies to anticipate price hike and market closed during holiday.

We thank our dedicated and loyal friends who support this program.

We wish for longevity of this program.
