ENJOY HEALTHY MENU WHILE LEARNING TOGETHER

By Christine Jemima

As usual, Christine & Indri who are in charge of nutritious food development programme preparing the healthy menu every Saturday. On Saturday, June 6, 2009, the healthy menus are milk & coconut water. The first healthy menu; milk was preparing before we learned together. We had to boil water first & then ask the children to collect their glass for milk. After they gathered at learning house, we ask children to clip their nail, then wash their hand & feet so they are free from germ. It becomes the Cakung children habit everytime they learn. After that, we sit in circle & sing together for about 20 minutes & then Indri & I distribute milk for the children who attend, such as Jaka, Adit, Nur, Yuliyana, Umi, Cynthia, Lina, Lini, Intan, Ester, Yulia, Kartini, Eneng, Susi, Jingga, Desi, Tia, Kiki, Andhika, Pedro, Desmon, Andrew, Joel, Christine, Indri, & Jessica.

After the children finish their milk, we ask them to return their glass at home for a while & then we learn together. Small children like Joel, Andrew, Pedro, Adit, Tia, Kiki, Umi, Cynthia, Intan, Andhika, Desi, Jingga, Lina, Lini, Nur, & Eneng learn writing with Ms.Debby, while the big children such as Christine, Indri, Jessic, Yulia, Desmon, Ester, Kartini, Susi, Jaka, & Yana after doing the writing homework, learn patchwork with Ms.Uju. We use scraps of clothes from secondhand clothes. We sewed by needle & white yarn. Most of us like sewing, because needlework is not difficult, just takes patient. It’s so worth learning sewing colouring scraps of clothes. We can make tablecloth, dress, handkerchief, etc.

At 2.15 PM, Ms.Debby were asking Christine & Yuliyana to buy coconut water while we take a rest. Before that, I checked the absent. There were 26 children with 3 facilitators, such as Ms.Uwie, Ms.Uju, & Ms.Debby. So the total was 29. Then we went out buying it. Christine & Yuliyana started the journey until Sulton traditional market by foot. No coconut water seller anymore. We went to Pintu Air buying coconut water. The total expense is 58.000 rupiahs. We paid it & back to learning house bringing 2 big plastic bag coconut water.

At 3.30, we arrived, but the small children had left home, so we have to ask them again. We were gathering together at learning house, sat in circle & sang, then pass the coconut water one by one. We drink it happily. After that, small children left learning house while big children continued sewing activity.

Susi & Desmon had ready their work neatly. Ms.Debby suggest to make competition for our work. We were so happy to hear that. Almost night, we backed home & finish our work at home & collect our work at June 27, 2009. We cleaned learning house & back home happily.
