Dear friends,
We were grateful to God and to our loyal
friends who supported the children learning community activities throughout
August 2018. The activities run smoothly at Cakung and Sarang Tupai, Ciawi.
In
the 2nd week of August 2018, big sister Camilla gave two days English
short courses for the children. Course
was given on Friday the 10th of August and Saturday, the 11th
of August 2018.
All
Cakung’s children participated in this program.
On
the first day of course, children learned about numbers and animals. On the
second day, children learned about color and the 2018 Asian Games participant’s
country flags.
First,
children stood and introduced themselves in English. They stated their name and
age.
Children
were very excited learning English. Children learned about animal’s instinctive
movement. After that, they played guessing game by mimicking the animals’
movement.
Children
also danced, learned command such as stand, sit, left and right round turn.
Day
I activity ended with paintings. Children were divided into four groups. Each
group is assigned to paint animal faces which were tiger’s, zebra’s, panda’s
and giraffe’s face.
After
that, the children tried to paint each other faces in their group. Big sister
Camilla and facilitators helped them.
In
Day II, children learned about color, body parts and national flags of the
Asian Games 2018’s participants.
Day
II began with listening children’s introduction about their favorite
colors.
After
that, children learned the English words for body parts. At the end, the
facilitator reviewed the lesson by asking children to indicate and pronounce
those body parts out loud.
Children
also were stimulated to movement such as singing and dancing. They dance in
slow pace and faster pace. We closed the activity with the children painted all
the Asian Games 2018 participants’ country flags.
Big
sister Camilla gave prizes to children who answered questions during quiz.
Children
thank big sister Camilla for her time and unique method in teaching. Children
had big fun learning English that day.
Children
hope that big sister Camilla will keep the children’s in her heart and
continues relationship for future event.
A
few days before Indonesia’s Independence Day, children prepared flags and
decorate Cakung’s learning hall.
In
the third week of August, we had a second quarter review at learning home in
Cakung as well as at learning terrace in Ciawi.
After
review, we organized competitive games to celebrate the 17th of August,
Indonesia’s Independence Day.
In
Cakung, the review and games happened on Saturday, the 18th of
August. In Ciawi, the review and games went in different days which were
Wednesday, the 15th of August, Monday, the 20th of August
and the next Monday the 27th August 2018.
In
Cakung, facilitators organized the games after review.
During review and Independence Day’s games, Cakung’s children were
accompanied by big brother Ludo. He replaced big brother Amad who was working
somewhere else that day.
Children were happy to receive big brother Ludo. He was attentive
to the children.
Children were reviewed on their own stage. Children in
stage, category 0, 1 and 2 were leaded by Mrs Mar’ah, big sister Yohana and big
sister Debby. Meanwhile big sister Indri and big brother Ludo leaded the
category 3’s children.
Children
were evaluated in Mathematics, Language Bahasa Indonesia, and general knowledge. Category 0’s, 1’s and 2’s children also
tested in their ability to memorize national anthems and the five nation
pillars, Pancasila.
After
evaluation at 3 pm, we prepared games on the empty lot near by Jakarta Garden
City real estate. Cheerfully, children walked to the lot. They played the games
with joy.
Games
played including crackers eating contest, marble race, and inserting pencil into
bottle, inserting small straw flag in the bottle and chain messages.
After
games, children enjoyed snack with fruit punch which were prepared by mothers
and facilitators.
On
Saturday, 25 August 2018, we announced the winners after learning. During
learning, we also review’s result.
In
Sarang Tupai, Ciawi, review happened on Wednesday, the 15th of
August and Monday, the 20th of August 2018.
On
Monday, at the 20th of August 20198, after reviewing session,
children played games celebrating Indonesia Independence at the 17th
of August.
Children
enjoyed the games at big yard inside the villa.
Many
kids participated.
The
Independence games played in Ciawi included crackers eating contest, marble
race, inserting small straw flag in the bottle, inserting small nail into
bottle, gunny sack race, and tug of wars.
On
Monday, at the 27th of August 2018, there was also Independence Day
activity in Sarang Tupai, Ciawi. Only this time, the participants were mothers
and facilitators of Children Learning Community.
Mothers
competed on making healthy dishes. After being judge, those dishes were served
for lunch. The same activity also happened last year.
Initially,
the menu served should be soup or liquid dishes. Due to lack of clean water
available in the area, we decided not to making healthy dishes competition.
Drought
season also impacted Ciawi community. Large
portion of area were developed into real estate and hotels. Many trees have
been chopped off, making the area’s temperature rise and not much plants to
sustain ground water.
Mothers
also used simple tools to cook avoiding heavy used of water to clean their
dishes later on.
In
Ciawi, the mothers played more sporty games such as gunny sack race, balloon
dancing, twisting games and tug of wars.
Mothers
and facilitators were excited. They were very eager competing in games. This
time, the spectators were children which excitedly cheered for their mother.
After
event, every one enjoyed vegetable soup and meatball. Mrs. Tjandra prepared
this dish and Ciawi’s mothers prepared rice. They ate while listening to the
announcement of game winners and children’s review results.
Children
thank Cakung’s and Ciawi’s community for their food preparation during the
Independence Day events. Children also
thank Mrs. Tjandra who always available with her healthy dishes.
During the month of August, Mrs. Mar’ah, Yohana, big brother Ludo,
big sister Indri, big sister Ari, and big sister Debby helped Cakung’s children
with their learning. Meanwhile Mrs. Lanny, Mrs. Ruth, Mrs. Vera, Mrs. Tjandra
and big sister Debby assisted Sarang Tupai’s children.
We thanked
facilitators, volunteers and surrounding community who gave their time,
efforts, finances and facility for this learning program.
In the month of August, for the scholarship program, we fulfilled
participants need such as monthly school fees, school transportation, school
supplies, photocopies fee and monthly school activity.
We
thank loyal donors who relentlessly providing us with scholarship assistance.
Your support is valuable for these children’s future.
Throughout August 2018, we
prepared various healthy meals for Cakung’s and Sarang Tupai’s children. We
prepared milk; cookies; vegetable rice cake coconut soup and boiled egg; tofu
omelets; jackfruit punch; cold young coconut water; oranges; jams; skewed
barbeque mushroom; boiled breadfruit with starfruit chilly shrimp paste; lesser
galangale crackers; cocoyam crackers.
Tofu
omelets were prepared by the Ciawi’s mothers. After learning, young girls helped
frying the omelets.
Cakung’s
children thank big sister Camilla for bringing apples. Ciawi’s children thank
Mrs. Tjandra for preparing cookies.
We
also thank facilitators Cakung’s and Sarang Tupai’s community for their effort
in preparing healthy menu throughout August 2018.
“Kartini” cooperative effort ran
well. Cakung’s community spared their time to purchase their grocery at the
cooperative after learning session.
We thank our loyal friends for their
support.
We
wish for longevity of this program.

are going to have 4 students from High Schope Junior High School doing their
community works in Cakung’s learning home in September and October 2018.
b. Sarang
Tupai, Ciawi’s community continue to do handicraft out of recycle coffee pack
followed by knitting.
2. Scholarship
a. Fulfill
Elementary, Middle School, High School and Vocational High School participants’
school needs and equipments.
3. Staple
Needs Cooperative Effort

items.
