Progress Report of Children Learning Community in August 2018

Dear friends,

We were grateful to God and to our loyal friends who supported the children learning community activities throughout August 2018. The activities run smoothly at Cakung and Sarang Tupai, Ciawi.

In the 2nd week of August 2018, big sister Camilla gave two days English short courses for the children.  Course was given on Friday the 10th of August and Saturday, the 11th of August 2018.
All Cakung’s children participated in this program.

On the first day of course, children learned about numbers and animals. On the second day, children learned about color and the 2018 Asian Games participant’s country flags.

First, children stood and introduced themselves in English. They stated their name and age.

Children were very excited learning English. Children learned about animal’s instinctive movement. After that, they played guessing game by mimicking the animals’ movement.

Children also danced, learned command such as stand, sit, left and right round turn.

Day I activity ended with paintings. Children were divided into four groups. Each group is assigned to paint animal faces which were tiger’s, zebra’s, panda’s and giraffe’s face.

After that, the children tried to paint each other faces in their group. Big sister Camilla and facilitators helped them.

In Day II, children learned about color, body parts and national flags of the Asian Games 2018’s participants.

Day II began with listening children’s introduction about their favorite colors.

After that, children learned the English words for body parts. At the end, the facilitator reviewed the lesson by asking children to indicate and pronounce those body parts out loud.

Children also were stimulated to movement such as singing and dancing. They dance in slow pace and faster pace. We closed the activity with the children painted all the Asian Games 2018 participants’ country flags.

Big sister Camilla gave prizes to children who answered questions during quiz.

Children thank big sister Camilla for her time and unique method in teaching. Children had big fun learning English that day.

Children hope that big sister Camilla will keep the children’s in her heart and continues relationship for future event.

A few days before Indonesia’s Independence Day, children prepared flags and decorate Cakung’s learning hall.

In the third week of August, we had a second quarter review at learning home in Cakung as well as at learning terrace in Ciawi.

After review, we organized competitive games to celebrate the 17th of August, Indonesia’s Independence Day.

In Cakung, the review and games happened on Saturday, the 18th of August. In Ciawi, the review and games went in different days which were Wednesday, the 15th of August, Monday, the 20th of August and the next Monday the 27th August 2018.

In Cakung, facilitators organized the games after review.

During review and Independence Day’s games, Cakung’s children were accompanied by big brother Ludo. He replaced big brother Amad who was working somewhere else that day.

Children were happy to receive big brother Ludo. He was attentive to the children.

Children were reviewed on their own stage. Children in stage, category 0, 1 and 2 were leaded by Mrs Mar’ah, big sister Yohana and big sister Debby. Meanwhile big sister Indri and big brother Ludo leaded the category 3’s children.

Children were evaluated in Mathematics, Language Bahasa Indonesia, and general knowledge. Category 0’s, 1’s and 2’s children also tested in their ability to memorize national anthems and the five nation pillars, Pancasila.

After evaluation at 3 pm, we prepared games on the empty lot near by Jakarta Garden City real estate. Cheerfully, children walked to the lot. They played the games with joy.

On Monday, at the 20th of August 20198, after reviewing session, children played games celebrating Indonesia Independence at the 17th of August.
Children enjoyed the games at big yard inside the villa.
Many kids participated.

On Monday, at the 27th of August 2018, there was also Independence Day activity in Sarang Tupai, Ciawi. Only this time, the participants were mothers and facilitators of Children Learning Community.

Mothers competed on making healthy dishes. After being judge, those dishes were served for lunch. The same activity also happened last year.

Initially, the menu served should be soup or liquid dishes. Due to lack of clean water available in the area, we decided not to making healthy dishes competition

Drought season also impacted Ciawi community. Large portion of area were developed into real estate and hotels. Many trees have been chopped off, making the area’s temperature rise and not much plants to sustain ground water.

Mothers also used simple tools to cook avoiding heavy used of water to clean their dishes later on.

In Ciawi, the mothers played more sporty games such as gunny sack race, balloon dancing, twisting games and tug of wars.

Mothers and facilitators were excited. They were very eager competing in games. This time, the spectators were children which excitedly cheered for their mother.

After event, every one enjoyed vegetable soup and meatball. Mrs. Tjandra prepared this dish and Ciawi’s mothers prepared rice. They ate while listening to the announcement of game winners and children’s review results.
