Dear friends,
We were grateful to God and to our loyal
friends who supported the children learning community activities throughout
October 2018. The activities run smoothly at Cakung and Sarang Tupai, Ciawi.
Children Learning
Community has been running continuously since 2006. We are grateful to our
faithful donors and to all our dear friends who support us.
We come to the closing
of 2018. The Children Learning Community has been blessed with financial
supports, material donations for the children, committed efforts from
volunteers and community. Due to lack of time and short of funds, we manage to
prioritize the most important activity first, pushing back some activities for
the coming months. There are several activities that need to be postponed.
Up to this moment, we
only succeed up to 56% of total budget. Since there are several unavoidable
financial commitments to the children, we had to squeeze our way through the
available fund. We hope to close this year with several priority activities and
commitments.
We still need your
help to fulfill our responsibility to the children until the end of fiscal year
2018.
Children are in debt
to our committed friends and kind donors. They have given these children
opportunity to grow to be smart, independent and virtuous citizens.
In
October 2018, we attended several Cakung’s and Ciawi’s community events.
In
the beginning of October 2018, with his family, we celebrated a Ciawi’s child Muslim commencement.
The
celebration holds at the villa where learning taken place.
Together,
parents and children are excited attending the event.
At
the end of September 2018, we visited Cakung’s resident who just came out of a
spinal surgery.
After
a few months went back and forth using limited state health insurance, she
finally had a chance for surgery. Everything was covered by the insurance except
medications. She had to pay for all medication that was prescribed.
We
were glad to see her home with her family.
We
talked to her children. Although she will be better soon but she will not able
to do her usual occupation as cake and food vendor or as a house maid at
people’s home.
We
wish Holil a fast recovery after Muslim commencement and Mrs. Hasnah a fast
recovery after her surgery.
There
were also four High Scope middle school students who completed their school
assignment by doing community service for 12 hours assisting children at Cakung
Learning facility.
In
doing their assignments four students were grouped into two. They came every
consecutive Saturday in September to October 2018.
At
the end of their assignment, the first group had returned earlier but the other
group, Tanaya and Calya bid farewell to the children by distributing cookies
and milk. Children enjoyed the cookies with warm chocolate milk.
The
children thanked these four middle school High Scope students, Tanaya, Tabina,
Jasmine, and Calya for helping them study. They also appreciated their treat of
cookies, cakes and snacks that were given after studying.
Children
and
facilitators expressed their gratitude
as well apologizing for their behavior during learning. We also expressed our
regrets for any short comings during their time with us.
We hope for continuous
relationship.
Meanwhile, other activities in Cakung and Ciawi ran well
throughout October 2018.
In category zero, children learned alphabet by reciting it
together with the facilitator and eventually in time reciting it individually.
They learned words and recited simple sentences.
The children took turns to write on the board. After that,
children recited their own handwriting. They also recited words out of reading
section in their text book.
Mrs. Lanny, Mrs. Ruth, and Mrs. Vera accompanied the children.
Children at age of 10 to 13 learned with big sister Lenny, Jagad’s
mother, and big sister Debby.
The mothers also did their handy craft such as knitting small
wallet and making place mat out of recycle coffee packs.
In October, Cakung’s children were accompanied by Mrs. Mar’ah, big
sister Indri, big brother Ludo, and big sister Debby. In Sarang Tupai, children
were accompanied by big sister Lenny, Mrs. Ruth, Mrs. Vera, Mrs. Lanny, Jagad’s
mother, and big sister Debby.
We thanked
facilitators, volunteers and surrounding community who gave their time, efforts,
finances and facility for this learning program.
In the month of October, we fulfilled scholarship recipients’ need
such as monthly school fees, school transportation, school supplies,
photocopies fee and monthly school activity.
We
thank loyal donors who relentlessly providing us with scholarship assistance.
Your support is valuable for these children’s future.
In
Cakung and Sarang Tupai, the healthy menu of October 2018 include cookies, warm
hot chocolate, fruit punch, mango chocolate pudding, mangoes, rice dish, snake
fruit, steam bread fruit, fruit salad, and dry spinach crackers.
Entering
the rainy seasons, we also enjoyed harvesting mangoes. In Cakung and Ciawi, the
children enjoyed mango fruits and chocolate pudding with chunk of mangoes in
it.
Together
with Ciawi’s community, we prepared various dishes. We prepared rise dish and
sautéed salty fish; sautéed anchovy and jengkol; chili paste; tempe ; boiled papaya leaves and cassava leaves; with cucumber and various garden vegetables and plants from
community’s yard.
We
also thank facilitators Cakung’s and Sarang Tupai’s community for their effort
in preparing the healthy menu throughout October 2018.
Cakung’s
children thank big sister Tanaya and Calya for cookies and snacks.
Throughout October 2018, “Kartini”
saving and loan cooperative effort ran well.
Cakung’s community spared their time
to purchase their grocery at the cooperative after learning session.
We
received payment from Cakung’s community on time. We purchased a few basic
needs in the middle of October 2018.
We thank our loyal friends for their
support.
We
wish for longevity of this program.
