LEARNING THE MEANING OF SOLIDARITY AT COMMUNITY STUDY HOUSE

By Yohanes

I am very happy to have a study house in Cakung. At this house, there are many children who are eager to learn. In addition, there are many big sisters and brothers who are very kind and willing to teach these enthusiastic children.

These big brothers and sisters have sacrificed their time to come and teach Cakung’s children. There are nine big brothers and sisters. They have different religions and come from different ethnic background. Kak Debby, Kak Lisa, Kak Vera and Kak Lucy are Christian and of ethnic Ambon, Toraja, mixed of Javanese and Chinese. Kak Uwie, Kak Qori’ah, Kak Uju and Kak Rikah are Muslims of Sundanese, Javanese ethnicity. One of them comes from a town in East Java called Indramayu.

We also learn that at our community study house in Cakung are made of people from many different religions and ethnicities. There are children from Central Java, Madura, Indramayu, North Sumatra (Batak) and they are Muslims and Christians.

I admire our Cakung’s big brothers and sisters who are patiently encouraging us to learn. At the same, I also admire my friends who are so eager to learn at Cakung community house.

At the study house, I learn a very valuable lesson about respecting each other and not discriminating against based on race and religions.

Different race and religions enrich our diversity. We learn to understand this diversity in order to eliminate conflicts among us.
