Idul Fitri

By Indria Sari

On Friday, 10 September 2010, all Moslems celebrated Idul Fitri. On the first day of Lebaran, we prayed shalat Id at Al Mukhlisin Mosque. After shalat, we went home and bowed in front of our parents and elder brothers and sisters. After shaking hands, we had vegetable with rice cake and beef rending. Then, we went around visiting our neighbors to greet Happy Idul Fitri and ask for forgiveness.

After that, we went to visit our grandmother and we bowed in front of her. Relatives came and gathered. My cousins and I who are still at school received money from relatives who have earned some money.

Then, all of my grandmother’s children and grand children went around visiting relatives who live nearby. After that, we returned to grandma’s place to take a rest, lunch and to a nap for awhile. Late in the afternoon, we went to my grandma’s sister who lives on Mosque Lane.

On the second day of Lebaran, my mother and I visited grandma until afternoon. Then, I received a text message from Kak Debby who told that Bu Nancy visited and brought bread for all of us. Yohanes, Ester, Ondo, Jaka and I went to help bringing the boxes of bread in. Bu Nancy came together with her son, Vincent.

Bu Nancy took us to go around and took photos together. After that, we walked them to the end of the small lane and said good bye. We then distributed the bread to each family in Cakung.

Late afternoon when I returned home I saw mom and my sister dressed up nicely. Apparently they were planning to visit our relatives in Pulo Gadung. I straight away changed clothes and got ready too. When we arrived at our relatives’ home, we asked for forgiveness and sat together in front of television. We shared jokes. We went home just before the maghrib time.
