and
The holy fasting month of Ramadhan
We are grateful to God and to our loyal friends who
supported the activity of children learning community in both Cakung and Sarang
Tupai, Ciawi throughout May 2017.
Mrs. Tjandra, Mrs. Lanny, Mrs. Vera, Jagad’s mom, and Mrs. Ruth accompanied the
Sarang Tupai’s children on their study. Meanwhile in Cakung, big sister Indri, big brother Jaka, big sister Intan, Mrs. Mar’ah, big brother Diki, and big sister Debby accompanied the children.
With the help of
big brother Diki, the Cakung’s children in the category stage 3 and 4 learned
to play guitar. They learned a few basic chords before going into some simple
songs. While waiting for their children, the mothers practiced making small handmade
bags from recycle coffee packs.
On Saturday, 6th
of May 2017, we reviewed twenty seven children in various learning categories.
Guitar lesson as also included in the review which happened a week after the academic
review.
We reviewed the
children based on their diligent, willingness and attitude toward studying.
These criteria mostly reflected on their grades. The best child was selected from learning
category and was given the prize.
Children who
participated in the review were all getting their prizes. For the child in each learning category who got the
special price. For the children in learning stage 0, 1 and 2, they got their
prizes right after the review. And for the children in learning stage 3 and 4,
they got the prizes a week after their review.
The highest prize
in May 2017 went to two children, Riky and Jenny. They are the most diligent in
learning and money savings.
We thank
facilitators, volunteers and surrounding community who relentlessly gave their
time, efforts, finances and place for this learning program.
In the 3rd week of
May 2017, the children accompanied by their parents and facilitators
participated in outdoor activities.
We took a trip to the city.
Since, we haven’t plan going away trip thoroughly, therefore, we picked the
city this time. Only active attendance children allowed coming with us. We
charged a small amount to participants, the children and their parents.
Children were excited visiting
the city hall and RPTRA Kalijodo, the newest modern children park. We
traveled early in the morning with rental mini bus and continued with
TransJakarta commuter bus. We went back with commuter train.
That was the first time the
children visited city hall. There were many historical artifacts and posted
biography of Jakarta’s governors.
We took pictures in the front
of and inside city hall. Children took pictures with Ondel-ondel, Jakarta’s
mascot, the standing banner of Pak Ahok, Jakarta’s governor and Pak Djarot,
Jakarta’s vice governor.
Before going to RPTRA
Kalijodo, children were allowed to fill up their water bottle from drinking
water fountain in the building terrace. After that, they continued the trip
using TransJakarta bus.
We sat in the shade inside RPTRA
Kalijodo and had our lunch together.
After lunch, we let the children played.
Some children hired tricycle
and bicycle to go around the park. Some of them posed for pictures with many
live character mascots in the park.
Children were very happy
playing in the park. We went home that afternoon using the TransJakarta bus,
continued with commuter train and hired a mini bus taxi back to the children’s
home.
Visiting city hall, learning
the history of Jakarta, riding modern TransJakarta bus and taking commuter
train were memorable experience for the children. They enjoyed affordable,
clean and friendly places.
Starting of May 2017, we
reregistered the 2017’s library collections and rearranged the books in their
cases.
Every week, we got help from
big sister Ari and Jessica with library books.
We thanked the library’s team
for their diligent help on taking care of the library books.
As usual, every Friday,
Cakung’s children enjoy their library books before learning.
This month, some of Elementary
and Middle School’s student took their final exams. Some sophomores and juniors
of Vocational High School would be taking their finals in the beginning of
June.
Meanwhile the seniors of
Vocational High School were already received their results. One of our students
achieved the first rank in his school. Others
passed with fair results.
The May 2017’s expenses
include school fees for all scholarship’s participants from Elementary to
Vocational High School level. Other expenses are transportation, monthly
activity’s fee and routine school transportation.
We are grateful to our friends
who continuously provide their financial support for this scholarship program.
This scholarship’s support is extremely valuable for the children’s future.
Throughout May 2017, we

cookies, watermelon, papaya, dates, stir fried rice noodle seafood and steam
