Progress Report of Children Learning Community in January 2017

 We wish our dear friends who celebrate this festive season.

A very happy lunar year 2567

May we bless with peace, happiness and prosperity in the year of fire rooster. 

We are grateful to God and to our loyal friends who support the activity of children learning community in Cakung and in Sarang Tupai, Ciawi. The activities ran smoothly throughout January 2017.

The new academic year started with celebration. Children and mothers enjoyed barbeque corn, sausage and steamed cassava. About 42 children and the facilitators attended this gathering. Children’s new year resolution was to be more diligent in their study.

Despite rain cats and dogs the whole day, children were very excited with the gathering. Some teenage girls helped the mothers cooking barbeque corn and sausage. And after that, children enjoyed eating them.

The learning activity in Cakung began with a few children attending the lesson. After last lesson review with some facilitators, we decided to equip Cakung’s learning hall with classroom desk.  We encourage children who mostly in level 3 and 4, to sit properly.  Many of the boys like to distract each other during lesson. Thus the purpose of this arrangement is to keep the classroom in order.

Meanwhile in Sarang Tupai, children still use folding table to study.

In the middle of January 2017, we were back in order.  Finally we could normally carry all activities.

We thank facilitators, volunteers and surrounding community who relentlessly gave their time, efforts, finances and place for this learning program. We thank Jaka, Intan, Yana, Mama Soni, Mama Dino, and Indri in Cakung. We also thank big sister Ivonne, Mrs. Vera, Mrs. Lanny, Mama Jagad, Mrs. Ruth, and Cantik in Sarang Tupai, Megamendung, Ciawi

We thank Jessica, Jason, and Justin for collecting used clothes and shoes for Cakung’s children.

This month scholarship expenditure was higher than usual. One of major expenses was one semester advance payment for a Sarang Tupai’s Vocational High School student. The school needed to fulfill their budget for building renovation.    Besides that, we also paid for a month extension fee for another Sarang Tupai’s Vocational High School student. This was to give a chance for this student to develop school lesson and training out of ordinary semester lesson.   We also fulfilled some routine expenses such as monthly school fee, transportation fee, monthly activity fee and other learning needs.

We are grateful to our friends who continuously provide their financial support for this scholarship program. This scholarship’s support is extremely valuable for the children’s future.

To support healthy diet program, we prepared nutritious menu for Cakung and Sarang Tupai.  We prepared grill corn, grill sausages, sweet corn coconut milk soup, mungbean porridge top with banana slices, cookies and fried cassava. To comfort children’s stomach during rainy season, we served them with warm dishes such as mungbean porridge, sweet corn coconut milk soup with warm rice pudding.  

After enjoying their meal, the teenagers helped us cleaning the facility. Each Cakung’s and Sarang Tupai’s children carried their own duty such as sweeping, mopping, washing dishes, while before it, they were cutting little children’s nail and cleaning their hands.

We also express our gratitude to the facilitators and the neighborhood of Cakung and Sarang Tupai who help us in preparing the healthy dish throughout January 2017.

February 2017 Plan :

1.                 Learning Activity

a.    Big sister Alvieni will be delivering motivational speech and training to the children of level 3 and 4.  

b.    Life-skill activities such as making wallet out of recycle coffee bags, cooking and baking cakes for the mother of Cakung children community.

2.                Scholarship

Finally, we express many thanks to our friends for their support in prayers, finances, efforts and materials for this month. Your generosity brought tremendous impact to the program.  

We are deeply touched by many of our donors’ generosity. They prioritized others than themselves.  We truly appreciate your trust in our efforts.

We are short on 2017’s operational budget, therefore we humbly ask for your kindness and continuous supports.
