Progress Report of Children Learning Community in March 2017

Dear friends,

We are grateful to God and to our loyal friends who support the activity of children learning community in Cakung and in Sarang Tupai, Ciawi. The activities ran well throughout March 2017.

On Monday, the 13th of March 2017, Mrs. Tjandra visited the children of Sarang Tupai, Ciawi. She brought books, stationeries and food for the children. She also made cake for the children and brought milk and cookies. The children thanked Mrs. Tjandra who wanted to dedicate her time every Monday for the children.

On Saturday, the 25th of March, 2017, we also received Mrs. Martini and her friend with their two kids, Jonathan and Samuel who helped preparing healthy food for the children of Cakung. The kids learned healthy menu from school and practiced preparing them with us. After meal, they also distributed soaps, tooth pastes and tooth brushes. They reminded the children about the importance of dental hygiene, cleaning their mouth and teeth. They pointed back the importance of brushing teeth after breakfast and evening before sleeping.

Together with Jonathan and Samuel, the Cakung’s children enjoyed their meal.  We thanked Mrs. Martini and friend, Jonathan and Samuel, for their kind attention and donation.

On Monday, the 27th of March 2017, Sarang Tupai’s children welcomed big sister Mona and Lisa along with their husbands, big brother Heri and Jeff. Big brother Jeff wanted to celebrate his birthday and wedding anniversary with the children.

Big sister Mona and Lisa were former Cakung’s facilitators at Cakung field area, the previous learning location.

The Sarang tupai’s children gathered at the villa which cared by the family of Cholil, one of the student. The mothers cooked turmeric rice and decorated with assortment of dishes. The mothers used the donation from big sister Lisa and big brother Jeff to buy fresh ingredients for this meal.

The children were happy to see their big brothers and sisters. They practiced their English by introducing themselves. Some children were confident enough to show their English skill while the rest were a bit shy.

Children also got some presents for answering questions and introducing themselves in English. Big sister Mona, big brother Heri, big sister Lisa and big brother Jeff posted the questions. The winners were Itouw, Nana, Maria and Aulia.

The children enjoyed special lunch that day. Some of mothers who cooked also enjoyed those special meals. After lunch, children got in line and thanked the guests by shaking their hands. The guests also distributed goodie bags for the children to take home. They got eating utensils, a small milk cartoon and cookies which packed inside a small bag.

We provided a car to take the children home. We didn’t want their parents to worry about their child’s safety. Since wide spread rumors about child abduction, many parents were worried about their children traveling away from home.

These days, we wouldn’t let the children walk alone. We picked them from home and taking them back to their home. Some teenagers assisted us on picking up and walking back home with the younger children.

We were grateful to our guests, big sister Mona, Lisa and big brother Heri and Jeff. We thanked them for their continuous support and attention.

On March 2017, there were three winners in Cakung for the most diligent in learning and in money saving.  They received prices for their effort. We hoped that their effort could trigger other students to be more active in learning and saving.

We thank facilitators, volunteers and surrounding community who relentlessly gave their time, efforts, finances and place for this learning program. We thanked Jaka, Intan, Yana, Dino’s mom, and Indri in Cakung. We also thanked Mrs. Vera, Mrs. Lanny, Mrs. Ruth, Pagi, and Cantik in Sarang Tupai, Megamendung, Ciawi.

Our mission is to develop learning spirit among marginal community. Since last year, we have planned for a new learning place.  On Thursday, 23rd of March 2017, we surveyed a location in Tangerang.

With Cakung’s facilitators, we visited a home of former Cakung’s residence who moved to Tangerang. The community that we visited consists of vegetable farmers and small wet market vegetable vendors. We noticed little toddlers were running around among their parents and also some school age children were bathing in rice field gutter.

Facilitators still need to discuss deeper about the plan to open this Tangerang’s learning facility.

We ask for your prayer and support for this plan.

This month scholarship includes school expense for Elementary to Vocational High School students. Other expenses include transportation, monthly school activities and routine school transportation.

We are grateful to our friends who continuously provide their financial support for this scholarship program. This scholarship’s support is extremely valuable for the children’s future.

In March 2017, we prepared varieties of healthy menu for the children in Cakung as well as in Sarang Tupai.   We served boiled nuts and cassava with coconut slices and sprinkled brown sugar on top and  also cassava with traditional sautéed of soy bean dish.   We served fruit such as snake fruit and watermelon, and fried corn beef. Mrs Tjandra prepared cakes, milk and cookies for Sarang Tupai’s children. In Cakung, Jonathan, Samuel, Mrs Martini and friend prepared rice dish with fried mash potatoes and sautéed ground beef inside top with tomatoes ketchup. They also prepared omelet, sautéed broccoli and watermelon as dessert.  Big sister Lisa, big brother Jeff, big sister Mona and big brother Heri also prepared special menu for Sarang Tupai’s children. They prepared the assortment of turmeric rice dish, including fried chicken, sautéed rice noodle, carrot and string beans.  They also prepared, sautéed soybean, salad, crackers and spicy nut sauce. They prepared this menu for celebration of big brother Jeff’s birthday.

Once again, we express our gratitude to our kind friends who prepares the healthy dish for the children in Cakung as well as in Sarang Tupai, Ciawi. We thank Mrs. Tjandra, Jonathan, Samuel, Mrs. Martini and friend.  We also thank big sister Mona, big sister Lisa, big brother Heri and Jeff.
