Dear friends,
We are grateful to God and to our loyal friends who
support the activity of children learning community in Cakung and in Sarang
Tupai, Ciawi. The activities ran well throughout February 2017.
The 3rd
stage and 4th children started to picking up their guitar lesson.
Children learned a pop song with six basic chords. A former Cakung’s residence
who moved to Buaran taught guitar lesson to the children.
In Cakung, last
month, there were four most diligent students who were regularly attending the
lesson. We gave them presents for their effort. We hope that children learn
with excitement and continue to manage their finances with the habit of saving.
Despite heavy
rain, many Sarang Tupai’s children still attended the lesson. Heavy rain and
thick fog usually hinder the children to come.
In the beginning
of February 2017, Dr. Frans, our longtime friend visited us. We knew Dr Frans
since 2009. He used to help us as a facilitator. Even now, he is still helping
us with many of our activities here in Cakung.
He visited both
facilities, Cakung and Sarang Tupai, Ciawi.
Children were
excited to see Dr. Frans. The 3rd and 4th stage children
introduced themselves in English. After lesson, they were happy to receive
snacks and milk from Dr. Frans.
We thank Dr. Frans
for visiting us and supporting us with finances and learning materials.
In the middle of
February 2017, we received English books form Mrs. Gerda Silalahi and friends. Mrs.Djiauw Swie Tjing also donated science books to the children.
We are grateful
for the reading book donations. They help the children expand their mind. We
registered all these books in the library.
We are in debt to Mrs.Gerda Silalahi and Mrs. Djiauw Swie Tjing on their donations
for our library needs and activities.
In the last
report, we planned to invite motivational facilitator for a session with us.
Due to the speaker hectic schedule, we had to postpone this event until his
available time in April.
The mothers had
their activity on Wednesday, February 7, 2017. They learned to make Chinese bun
from other Cakung’s mother who mastered Chinese cooking. They made bun filled
with red bean and stir chicken and Jicama. The mothers learned to shape the bun
and bun’s fillers. They also learned to make chili sauce for bun’s dip.
Fr. Frances and Fr. Bosco made a workshop
about the civil’s role in government, how they considered the government run in
the social political role. They made it as a part of their college's
assignment. Some mothers interested in the discussion after the children’s learning
activity.
We thank Fr. Frances, SJ and Fr. Bosco, SJ
for giving knowledge and comprehension about the civil’s social political role.
We thank
facilitators, volunteers and surrounding community who relentlessly gave their
time, efforts, finances and place for this learning program. We thank Jaka, Intan, Yana, Soni’s mother, Dino’s mother, and Indri in Cakung. We also
thank big sister Ivonne, Mrs. Vera, Mrs Lanny, Jagad’s mother, Mrs Ruth, and Cantik in Sarang Tupai, Megamendung,
Ciawi.
Cakung’s children
also thank Jessica, Jason and Justin for clothing donation. We also thank Mrs. Erta and friends who donate many of useful goods.
The mothers and teenagers also thank the Ursulin sisterhood for their donations
of recycle coffee pack. This recycles coffee packs were used for the mothers’
craft materials.
The scholarship expenses including monthly school fee
in Elementary stage to Vocational High School stage. Other expenses include
monthly activities, photocopies, school transportation and school equipment.
Elementary student .and Vocational High School student also received fund for
State Exam.
We are grateful to our friends
who continuously provide their financial support for this scholarship program.
This scholarship’s support is extremely valuable for the children’s future.
In February, we prepared healthy diet include boiled
eggs dip with sweet sauce and salt. The Sarang Tupai’s teenagers also prepare
Seblak, the West Java traditional food.
For Seblak, together with teenagers, we prepared the
recipe, ingredients, equpiments needed. We also showed the teenagers the way to
cook and to serve this delicatessen. The teenager learned to share their duty
that day. In the other corner, after learning, five teenagers also prepare slices
bread with sarikaya spread, which made from the ingredients of coconut milk, egg
yok, and sugar palm.
The Cakung’s mother boiled sweet potatoes and cassavas, served with
coconut slices and sprinkled sugar on top.
The Sarang Tupai’s mother prepared ‘ketoprak’ which from the bean sprout salad with peanut sauce and rice cake for
lunch with Dr. Frans that day.
The teenagers of Sarang Tupai prepared slices bread
with sari kaya spread.
The Cakung’s mother also made mix dragon fruit and
papaya with shaved ice and sugary lemon squeezed on top.
During rainy day, after learning, we served green been
porridge to warm up the stomach of Sarang Tupai’s children. The weather in Sarang Tupai can be
treacherous. Some days, we have thunder showers and heavy fog all day.
We also express our gratitude
to the facilitators and the community of Cakung and Sarang Tupai who help us in
preparing the healthy dish throughout February 2017.
