Progress Report of Children Learning Community in January 2018

Dear friends,

We were grateful to God and to our loyal friends who supported children learning community activities in Cakung and Sarang Tupai, Ciawi throughout January 2018.

The number of participants started to increase. They were more participants than six months ago.

The number of participant increased in category 0 and 1. We also had wider age range. The participant’s age range are between 2 to 12 years old.

After review, the fasilitators in Cakung and Sarang Tupai set their time to visit the absent children. Some children just need to be reminded, but some really needed to be pick up back.

The reason these children were absent because they like to follow their friends. A lack enthusiasm in a child can influenced others.

It was an ongoing struggle to the keep the children enthusiast with learning.

Mrs. Lanny, Mrs. Vera, Rachel, Mrs. Ruth, Mrs. Tjandra, and big sister Debby taught Sarang Tupai’s children. Meanwhile Mrs. Mar’ah, and big sister Debby taught Cakung’s children.

In 2018, the Sarang Tupai’s learning day moved to Wednesday. Other working days were for new skill development. The skill development will start next month.

We thanked facilitators, volunteers and surrounding community who relentlessly gave their time, efforts, finances and place for this learning program.

Just when we were about to revive the learning’s spirit, we got the news that our Cakung’s rental facility and office will be put up for sale.

Many years working with community and getting trust from community gave us confidence to go through this rough ride on finding a new place.

We would face our biggest task. We have accumulated many learning materials from donors. These things need to be packed carefully and lifted out. We had to preserve all these materials for future learning used.

We prayed for permanent learning facility and office.

In the middle of January, facilitators visited one of their colleague’s parent. For a while, this facilitator had to attend his parent at the hospital. Throughout January, he could not assist Cakung’s children.

In the middle of this month, we also had visitors from Kolese De Britto High School. Teachers and students did their live-in program in Cakung.

The students were living with the community who worked as farmers, scavengers, garbage collectors, vegetable street vendors, coffee kiosk attendants, and house painters.

For four days from the 15th of January until 19th January 2018, students did their live-in program. Every day, they experienced down pour. It was a bit tougher for them to do their duties in the rain.

We thanked the teachers and students of Kolese De Britto High School for picking our community as their live-in destination. We highly appreciated their hard work in learning about the community’s daily routine.

We hoped that through this hands on live-in program, the students learned about social awareness and responsibility.

Some state school scholarship recipients enjoyed only a few days of holiday. By the 3rd of January, they already went back to school.

The school expenses this month include lesson photo copies, internet fee, printing fee, monthly activity and school fee.

Some students paid their back monthly fee for two months and semester payment.

We thanked the donor who dedicated their financial resources for this scholarship program. Your financial assistance will bring tremendous impact in these children’s future.

Throughout January 2018, we prepared healthy food for Cakung’s and Sarang Tupai’s children. The food was jackfruit; snake fruit; cookies; fruit cocktail; cassava mix with corn, condense milk and cheese; seafood noodle pancake; chicken porridge and turmeric chicken rice.

We also expressed our gratitude to Mrs Tjandra in Sarang Tupai, the facilitators and the community of Cakung and Sarang Tupai who helped us with making healthy dishes throughout January 2018.

Kartini cooperative effort ran well. The activity was conducted after learning session. During that time, community purchased their grocery at the cooperative.

As usual, each member held their duty such as collecting back up payment from some members, bookkeeping, purchase record and inventories.

In January 2018, we also distributed dividend to cooperative members right after we finished our cooperative’s duty that day.

We distributed dividend to thirteen long time and devoted members.

We thank Mrs. Martini and PABT’s mothers for their loyal support to this program.

We ask for your prayer for this program.
