Progress Report of Children Learning Community in February 2018

Dear friends,

Happy Lunar Year 2569
May we are blessed with peace, happiness and prosperity in the year of brown earth dog.

We were grateful to God and to our loyal friends who supported children learning community activities throughout February 2018. In both Cakung and Sarang Tupai, Ciawi, the activities ran as usual.

Mrs. Lanny, Mrs. Vera, Mrs. Ruth, Mrs. Tjandra, and big sister Debby taught Sarang Tupai’s children. Meanwhile Mrs. Mar’ah, big brother Amad and big sister Debby taught Cakung’s children.

We thank facilitators, volunteers and surrounding community who relentlessly gave their time, efforts, finances and place for this learning program.

On Saturday, the 3rd of February 2018, children attended the Pope John Paul II Youth Foundation on their community program at Cakung Barat, East Jakarta apartment project.

Children came with facilitators and some mothers.

The program was about dental and body hygiene. It started in the morning and lasted around noon time. There was session for bigger children and also for baby and small children. Mothers brought their babies attending the program.

After the program, the organization gave each children the school bag with some snacks and dental kit. They give us some school supplies such as writing tablets, stationeries, reading books, white board, secondhand clothes and skills’ tool sets. They also gave a room fan. We thanked big sister Evelyn, Jessica, and many friends at Pope John Paul II Youth Foundation for their supports and helps.

We wish to continue our relationship with this organization.
Two days after Chinese New Year, the community made visited to their neighbors who celebrate this holiday.

We are grateful for our friendship with neighbors from various background. We were happy to celebrate Chinese New Year with them. We hope to strengthen our relationship with this community. And with many of fellow citizens, we will fight any intolerance behavior and conduct among us.

At the end of February 2018, the children were invited to visit Aletheia Christian Elementary School. The school had a program for their students to have experience with less fortunate children and to raise compassion and solidarity.

We came and introduced our Cakung’s and Sarang Tupai’s program. Children also interacted with the 6th grader.

The 6th grader were eager to listen and ask questions.

We thanked Mrs. Swie Tjing, a 6th grade teacher for allowing us to visit the school. She was also a longtime supporter of our activity.

We also thanked the school’s principal and teachers.

We hope that our visit will encourage the students to care for others in school, at home and further in their life at their own community.

We also wished to further our activity with the school.

Throughout February, there were several events in the community. We gave our outmost service and support to the community. We always remember them in our prayer.

In the beginning of February 2018, we mourned the loss of the mother of big sister Bergita. Big sister Bergita has been our longtime friend and supporter. We prayed for eternal rest in heavenly Father’s home.

We also prayed for the family’s and big sister Bergita’s strength in their daily life.

In the middle of February 2018 at the time of Chinese New Year, we also mourned the loss of big sister Indri’s father. Big sister Indri has been assisted Cakung’s children as facilitator. The decease has been struggling with chronic asthma. He lost his battle late in the evening before New Year.
We came to consult the family and prayed for strength during sorrow time.

At the end of February 2018, once again, we went through sorrow time, mourning the loss of Ms. Sepha’s mother. Ms. Sepha is one of our loyal supporter in our activity. We prayed for heavenly rest and eternal joy.

We prayed for Ms. Sepha’s and family’s strength.

At the end of the month, some students paid off their two months overdue fees.

Other school’s needs include monthly school fee, transportation, internet fee, photo copies and printing fee.

We thank the donor who support this program. Your support is valuable for children’s future.

Throughout February 2018, we prepared healthy food for Cakung’s and Sarang Tupai’s children. There were milk and cookies; spinach and corn soup; boiled egg with chili sauce; fried mash potatoes; rambutan; oranges; quill egg soup; banana; dry sweetened banana, papaya and mangosteen.

We also expressed our gratitude to Mrs Tjandra in Sarang Tupai, the facilitators and the community of Cakung and Sarang Tupai who helped us with healthy dishes throughout February 2018.

Kartini cooperative effort ran well. The activity was conducted after learning session. Community also spare their time to purchase their grocery at the cooperative.

At the end of February 2018, we finally purchased some rice. For a few months, we hold the purchase due to price increased of some staple food during holiday.
At the same time, we also purchased some out of stock items.
