Progress Report of Children Learning Community in May 2018

Dear friends,

For all the Budhists, we wish you a Happy three holy days of Vesak 2562

We were grateful to God and to our loyal friends who supported the children learning community activities throughout May 2018. In both Cakung and Sarang Tupai, Ciawi, the activities ran as usual.

In the first week of May 2018, we had 2nd quarter review. We managed to clear the reviews before going for outdoor activity annualy event.
All Cakung’s children in all categories participated on this 2nd quarter review.
Big sister Indri, Mrs. Mar’ah, and big sister Debby evaluated Cakung’s children.

Prizes were given a week after review.

Mrs. Lanny, Mrs. Ruth, Mrs. Tjandra, Novi, Tiwi, and big sister Debby taught the children in Sarang Tupai. Mrs. Mar’ah, Yohana, big brother Amad, big sister Rifa, big sister Indri, and big sister Debby taught Cakung’s children.

Throughout the month, the Sarang Tupai’s community were actively making goods out of recycle coffee packs and knitting. Children also learned to make flowers from pine cone and cork.

We thank facilitators, volunteers and surrounding community who relentlessly gave their time, efforts, finances and place for this learning program.

On Saturday, 12 May 2018, children visited Jakarta Planetarium and Ragunan Zoo as part of their outdoor activity.
There are 90 participants including children, facilitators and parents from Cakung and Sarang Tupai.
To indicate, where they came from, the Sarang Tupai’s children were wearing red shirts and Cakung’s children were wearing white shirts.

For transportation, we used borrowed busses. We were grateful for this friend of ours for lending us busses. We often use these busses for outdoor occasions.
The busses leaved Cakung and Ciawi at 6 am. Children already started to gather since 5 am.
Both busses arrived at the Jakarta Planetarium around 7 am.
Big brother Amad, big brother Bosco and big sister Camilia, our new friend helped us queuing at the planetarium for 9 am show. It was a long queuing and at the end we still could not make it for 9 am show.
We ended it up purchase tickets for the 12-noon show.
We spent some time wondered around the area. Some mothers went to Khong Guan cookies shop nearby.
Children were excitedly gazing at bright stars. They learned new things about the universe.
Especially, the majority of them have never been to planetarium before.
Back in 2008, we visited this place during outdoor activity. At that time, we took Cakung Sawah’s children to this place.
After the show, we took pictures in front of the building. To save our traveling time to the zoo, we went straight to the bus and had lunch inside the bus.
With facilitators, big sister Rachel and Camilla, the children were very excited looking at many different types of animals in the zoo.
Before sunset, we were heading home. Cakung’s and Sarang Tupai’s children arrived a bit late that evening.
We were grateful for many supports from our friend, especially for lending us busses.
We thank the donor for the ongoing attention to the children.
We also thank the donors for snacks and lunches. We also grateful to the donor for the financial support. With the money, we bought more food for our lunches.
We thank you all for your support.
We also thank big sister Camilla, big brother Amad, big brother Bosco who gave us their time to assist the children in this outdoor event.

Together, we hope for continuous working relationship in serving the children.

At the end of May 2018, on Friday, the 25th of May, we had visitors who came and met the children in Cakung. They brought financial donations, writing tablets and stationaries for the children.

Children introduced themselves and enjoyed their pep talks with the guests. They lit the children’s spirit and advised them to keep pursuing their life goal.

We thanked the donors for their present and attention to the children. We hope for continuous relationship.

There were several recipients who need immediate financial attention. Since the beginning of May, they have already scheduled to take entry test and they obligated to pay for registration fee at the end of May.

We also fulfilled other recipients on their school needs such as copies expenses, school supplies, uniforms, uniform patches, activity fees, routine school transportation and a few months back school fees for several recipients.

We were proud to assist one of our vocational high school students on her journey to Young Inventors Competition in Malaysia on this coming September 2018. We prepared her passport.

We thank loyal donor who relentlessly providing us with scholarship assistance. Your support is valuable for these children’s future.

Throughout May 2018, we prepared various healthy meals for Cakung’s and Sarang Tupai’s children. We prepared cookies, fried rice noodle, dumpling, coconut milk with brown sugar soup, fruit cocktail, fried flour corn, fried banana, fried yam and snake fruit.

We thank Mrs. Tjandra for preparing cookies, snake fruit and coconut milk with brown sugar soup for Sarang Tupai’s children
