Disaster in the midst of pandemic challenge, Children Learning Community September 2020 Report

 

Dear friends,

 

 

We were grateful to God and to our loyal friends who supported the children learning community’s activity throughout September 2020.

 

 We thank facilitators who assist the children in all activities.

 

We also thank all parents for their trust. Activities were run with great cautious during pandemic.

 

In recent pandemic development, Jakarta was back on locked down. It forced us to regroup and decided to had facilitators distributed written assignment and quick brief at children’s home. Every week, facilitators distributed and collected back complete assignments from the children. 

 

In the outskirt Jakarta, parents insisted to have their children learned with us. Although in strictly limited time, we provided learning for Ciawi’s and Rorotan, Malaka’s children.

 

Disaster stroke in the beginning of September 2020, on the 10^th of September, a house that sheltered children as a learning post caught on fire. This learning post is located in Garuda area, Kayu Tinggi.

 

We had review session that day in Cakung. Thus, we run to the fire location right away after hearing disaster news.

Surely, we saw the house burned down and also several neighbouring houses. 

We kept in communicating with parents and children to make sure they have safe shelter. From the community, we collected some money, grocery, and stationary for the children.

 

It was sad. Children who learned in burned down learning post at Garuda, Kayu Tinggi just got their recognition prize for their achievement.

 

We were also sad because in one of assignment, we just asked the children to write story about their favourite belonging and pet. Assignment has already been sent by the children through group whatsapp messages.

 

Ghania and Hania lost their bicycle and favourite dolls from the fire.

 

Toy donations and many of necessities kept the children busy. Even though, it was a traumatic experience losing their belongings, children were content with what they received.

   

Families coped with disaster smoothly. They insisted to build a new life with what they had.

 

Through the month of September, community and the children received many donations such as clothing, food, stationary, and writing tablets.

 

We thank Sister Maria, BKK and Sister Maria, OSU for reusable clothing donations.

 

We also thank LDD organization who donates food and stationary through Sister Maria, BKK. Donations went directly to Garuda, Kayu Tinggi community’s fire victims and other needy communities.

  

We also thank big sister Saneri with her donations of school bag and holders. Donations were personally brought by big sister Saneri to Cakung learning centre.

Prizes were given to children who completed their works.

 

The best work get the best prizes.

 

Children were grateful to receive scholarship assistance this month. We are also thankful for the opportunity to provide for these children.

 

All school expenses including text books and other needs were done by bank transfer. Transportation and snack allowance were allocated for internet fee.

 

Children thank loyal donors for providing scholarship assistance.

 

With your support, children will have a better future.

 

We ask many of our loyal friends to remember these children and communities.

 

Your generous kindness and supports have helped us. They boosted our morale and spirit to care for these children and communities.

 

October 2020 Plan :

 

1. Learning Activity at Cakung, Rorotan, and Ciawi.

1. Since pandemic, facilitators distribute lesson and communicate with the children through group whatsapp messages
2. Cakung’s and Rorotan’s facilitators will be doing lesson review every Thursday. Ciawi’s facilitators were scheduled to do lesson review at the end of the month.

Cakung’s and Ciawi’s community cooperative officers keep track of the inventory and purchase out of stock items.

 

 

We are grateful to our friends for their prayers, finances, efforts and materials’ support throughout this month.

 

You have boosted our spirit in bringing up the underprivileged community. You have given these children the opportunity to be smart, independent and prosper in their own community. Together, we have taken part in the nation’s effort for social justice.   Financial contributions and supports are still needed for this year’s budget. 

 

Despite hardship of pandemic, many of loyal donors are still dedicating their resources for the children.

 

The children were very grateful for that. It was helpful for day to day operation and Children Learning’s activities.

  

Even the smallest help will be beneficial for future generations’ education development.

  

We thank dedicated donors for their faith and trust.
