The Spirit of Youth, Children Learning Community October 2019's Report

Dear friends,

We regret for late report. This month we were swamped with many activities in all facilities.

Children enjoyed many activities with great enthusiasm.

We were grateful to God and to our loyal friends who supported the children learning community throughout October 2019. All activities at Cakung, Sarang Tupai, Ciawi and Muara Tawar ran smoothly.

This month, children had a chance also to enjoy various non-academic activities.

All community’s children, especially Cakung’s children, enjoy drawing. After learning, they seldom ask sketch pads.

This year, the 3^rd level children had a chance to compete in Lions Club International poster competition with “Journey of Peace” as their theme. 

We were glad to see the excitement in the children’ eyes. They were very eager preparing themselves for competition. The third level Cakung’s children even practice drawing way over pass learning time.

On Saturday, 19 October 2019, Muara Tawar’s and Cakung’s children had visitors. Mr. Patrick and Mrs. Katrin came to see them. 

They introduced themselves in English.

Mr. Patrick and Mrs. Katrin lead them to games in English. They also popped some English language questions for the children to answer. Actively, children answered those questions. They were thrill to have native English speakers teaching them. It was a once a life time for the children in Muara Tawar to learn English directly from native speakers.

After learning, we ate together. Children and parents eagerly to have their pictures taken with our visitors.

On Sunday, October 20th, 2019, after having fun with visitors, the third level children went to Lippo Mal Puri Indah for drawing competition.

Children were accompanied by facilitators. The competition took all day, from morning until late afternoon.

Shera, a Cakung’s children won a third place in Lions Club Monas Heritage Distric division.

This achievement motivate children to be better on their study and of course drawing.

We thank big sister Arleta and Mrs. Lucia, the competition organizers who let the children participate in competition.

We hope for further participation in competition ahead.

On Saturday, at the 26^th of October 2019, all the children in three communities gathered for an outdoor activity.  This year, the children visited Science Museum, “Museum Iptek” inside Indonesia’s miniature park, “Taman Mini Indonesia Indah”.

That day, the Cakung’s children and facilitators went to Muara Tawar to pick up Muara Tawar’s children and their parents.

Sarang Tupai’s children prepared themselves earlier, because they need to travel far away from Ciawi.

We gathered at the front gate and went straight to the museum.

Before enter the museum, we enjoy our prepared breakfast in the museum’s lot. After eating, children cleaned up their trash and lined up to get in.  Second and third level children walked with their facilitators. And the 0 and first level children accompanied by their own facilitators.

Children were amazed to see the size of museum. There were many exhibits and interactive instruments. Children were excited to experience the development of science and technology.

Before doing museum tour, children watched science movie. They also experienced a scientific experiment using balloon. Balloon was placed in the surface of mixture of liquid detergent and sugar. The balloon then become a host of an electrical current which make the balloon travel forward on top mixture liquid surface.

Children were happy to see the phenomena.

The children also guided to watch the living creatures in dinosaurs’ time and observed the experiment using liquid nitrogen.

Small children were taken to see a kettle sound caused by force of liquid nitrogen. Children were used to see boiling water in kettle, not liquid nitrogen in a kettle. They even tried to sample some smoky nitrogen cookies.

We thank Mrs. Herna for providing the children with tour bus.

We also thank Mrs. Risa and Mrs. Ari for their financial support and food donations.

We were grateful to Cakung’s, Ciawi’s and Muara Tawar’s community for letting their kids enjoy their time away from home.

We also thanked facilitators, volunteers and surrounding community who relentlessly gave their time, efforts, finances and place for this learning program.

Children and facilitators enjoy meal together after learning.

Muara Tawar’s community also experience disturbance. Some families built their houses too close to water channel. These days, there was a government project to upgrade the channel, including building road on the side of channel.  The government urged these families to move to an empty area, at the nearby village.

In Muara Tawar, we use a community post which locates next to a new construct road for our routine activities.

We hope that we can still use the facility during construction. If we have to move, then we hope for a suitable place nearby. 

We were grateful to fulfil children’s needs through scholarship program this month.

In October, the scholarship’s recipients received monthly school fees and transportation allowance which only available for a few needy children.

The children thank loyal donor for providing them with scholarship assistance.

With your support, children will have hope for better future.

This month, we served the children with fruits available such as mangoes, pineapple, green bean porridge and boiled corn top with condense milk and sprinkled cheese. In Muara Tawar, we prepared lunch for the children and our guests. In Sarang Tupai, Ciawi, we enjoyed hard boiled egg, rice meal with jackfruit soup and biscuit.

Children thanked facilitators and communities in all three locations for preparing heathy meal in October.

We ask many of our loyal friends to join us in caring for the children and community.

Your kind attentions and supports have strengthened us to carry on this duty and service to the children.

November 2019 Plan :

1.                Learning Activity

a.   Cakung’s, Ciawi’s, and Muara Tawar’s children will learn according to their routine schedule.

b.   Cakung’s and Muara Tawar’s teenagers and mothers will be having their handy craft class.

c. Children will be having their review at the end of November 2019

2.                Scholarship

a.   Fulfilling school needs for recipients in Elementary, Middle and High School level.

3.                Staple Needs Cooperative Effort

Purchase Cakung’s and Ciawis’s out of stock products

4.                Rental payment and signing up new agreement for Cakung’s Learning Home in the beginning of November 2019.

You have boosted our moral in bringing up poor community. We give children the opportunity to be smart, independent and prosper in their own community. In doing so, we participate in nation’s effort for social justice.
