Progress Report of Children Learning Community in August 2017

Dear friends,

We are grateful to God and to our loyal friends who supported the activity of children learning community in Cakung and Sarang Tupai, Ciawi throughout August 2017.
Mrs Tjandra, Mrs Lanny, Mrs Vera, Rachel, Mrs Ruth, big brother Agus, and big sister Debby accompanied the Sarang Tupai’s children on their study. Meanwhile big sister Ari, big sister Yana, Mrs Mar’ah, Indri, and big sister Debby accompanied the Cakung’s children.

Cakung’s and Sarang Tupai’s children celebrated the Indonesia’s Independence Day with fun games.  At that day, we also had 2nd quarter evaluation for the children.

The Sarang Tupai’s children enjoyed the games and did their evaluation on Monday at the 21st August 2017

The evaluation was in form of quizzes. All children need to take these quizzes. We prepared three different set of questions.

Children are evaluated on general knowledge, mathematics and chosen national anthem.  Children memorized the assign national anthem and sang it in front of the class.

All children and mothers participated in independent day fun games. Children had a good time doing hands free shrimp crackers eating competition, transporting marble with biting spoon, dancing with balloon,  running inside empty gunny sack and chain message.

Small children also participated in transporting marble with holding spoon and shrimp crackers competition.

Mrs Tjandra, big sister Yanti, big brother Agus, big sister Rachel assisted the games as judges. They also helped by Fitri, Aulia, Neldi and big sister Debby.

Children enjoyed their fun games while their mothers participated in fried rice cooking competition.

Six mothers participated. They were divided into three groups.

After being judge, everyone had a chance to taste the entry fried rice.

The entries fried rice was not only judged Mrs Tjandra, big sister Debby, and big sister Yanti but also some appointed children.

After lunch, we distributed presents to the winners.

Everyone really enjoyed the program. Some mothers even saw participating in both cooking competition and gunny sack running competition.

We thank facilitators, volunteers and surrounding community who relentlessly gave their time, efforts, finances and place for this learning program.

We thank Mrs Tjandra and big sister Yanti for preparing the game’s prizes such as writing tablets, pens and sharpeners.

The Cakung’s Children enjoyed competing games and did their 2nd quarter evaluation on Saturday at the 26st August 2017

The program that day began with 2nd quarter children evaluation. Children in all categories were tested.

Big sister Ari, Mrs Mar’ah, and Yana supervised the evaluation for children in category 0, 1 and 2. Meanwhile big sister Debby supervised the evaluation of children in category 3 and 4.

The test included competency in reading, writing and counting. Children were also tested for their ability to stand and properly introduce themselves in Indonesian and English.  They also tested in their ability to memorize the national anthem and five state principles, Pancasila.

After testing, children were guided by facilitators to the game spot, the empty lot in Jakarta Garden City housing compound. These areas were used to be vegetable garden where their parents made a living.

We used the vacant road and land for games such as hands free shrimp crackers eating competition, insert nail to bottle, insert decoration flag to bottle, transport marbles with biting spoon and chain messages.

In the afternoon, after fun and games, children went back and enjoyed snacks and juice. The snacks were prepared by Mrs Hasnah, a Cakung’s mother. The papaya and orange punch were prepared by facilitators and some Cakung’s mother.

Because it was already dark, we postponed the prize distribution until the beginning of September 2017.

Once again, we thank facilitators, volunteers and surrounding community who relentlessly gave their time, efforts, finances and place for this learning program.

We thank Mrs Fonny Halim, Mrs Martini and the community of PABT for their kindness providing the Cakung’s children with writing tablets.

In the beginning of August 2017, Mrs Novie prepared a cooking class for Cakung’s mother.

Cakung mothers participated in cooking class on Tuesday, 8th of August 2017. They were divided into three groups.
Mothers learned three recipes that day. The recipes were potatoes donut, chicken porridge and éclair pastry.

Mothers were very enthusiast with this program. We provide this program for mothers who want to be in food business.
Mrs Novie and the community of PABT provide food ingredients and recipe sheets for Cakung’s participants.
We thank Mrs Novie and the community of PABT for their faithful dedication supporting our program.

The library activity was run as usual. It will take some times for us to register many of new coming 2017 book collections.

We were in debt to all our diligent staff that relentlessly cared for our library.

For August’s scholarship program, some recipients received fund for school registration, text books and uniforms.

We tried hard to be consistent in providing them with text books, school supplies, shoes and uniforms. Besides that, we also provided them with monthly school fee and transportation.
We thanked our dearest friend who dedicate their financial resources for this scholarship program. Your financial assistance will have valuable impact for the future of these children.

Throughout August 2017, we prepared healthy food in Cakung and Sarang Tupai. The food was crackers, éclair, donut, oranges, guava, chicken porridge, fried rice, jackfruit and mix papaya and orange punch.
During the evaluation and games day, we prepared fried rice, watermelon, croquette and mix papaya and orange punch for Cakung’s and Sarang Tupai’s children.

After learning from Mrs Novie, the Cakung’s mothers tried to make the éclair and chicken porridge by themselves.

In the process of making éclair, the dough was not properly prepared. To salvage the dough, the mothers turn them into donut. The donuts were sprinkle with chocolate, nuts and cheese.

In the photos, we only saw a few good éclairs because the children ate the unsuccessful eclairs right away.

Mothers were challenge to make perfect éclair. In other hand mothers were very successful in making chicken porridge.

We were happy to see the children enjoyed eating chicken porridge which was made by mothers and facilitators.

We also express our gratitude to the facilitators and the community of Cakung and Sarang Tupai who helped us with making healthy dishes throughout August 2017.

We thank Mrs Tjandra who assisted Cakung’s and Sarang Tupai’s children with healthy diet, such as: oranges, watermelon and several fried rice ingredients.

We held the Cakung’s cooperative effort in the first week of August 2017 after learning session. The cooperative effort who called “Kartini” consisted of eleven women as members.  We shared duties. Indri involved in administration and finance matter. Big sister Ari prepared member shopping notes. Mrs Mar’ah supervised and listed available supplies. Other mothers separated and weighted the food, such as rice and eggs.

Many of our member felt the benefit of cooperative effort “Kartini”. We were thrilled that the cooperative effort could provide basic staple for their member.  For candidate who would like to join the cooperative effort but did not have 250,000 IDR to start with, we gave them light installment. They can pay the startup fee to us in several times.
