Progress Report of Children Learning Community in September 2017

Dear friends,

We are grateful to God and to our loyal friends who supported the activity of children learning community in Cakung and Sarang Tupai, Ciawi throughout September 2017.

Mrs Tjandra, Mrs Lanny, Mrs Vera, Rachel, Mrs Ruth, big brother Agus, and big sister Debby accompanied the Sarang Tupai’s children on their study. Meanwhile big sister Ari, big sister Yana, Mrs Mar’ah, big brother Amad, and big sister Debby accompanied the Cakung’s children.

In the beginning of September 2017, we had visitors. Big brother Frances accompanied big brother Amadea from Johar Baru Jesuit’s home came and saw Cakung’s children.

Since the end of April 2017, big brother Frances and Bosco have ended their duty in Cakung. They were replaced by big brother Amad.

Big brother Amad cared for children in category 3 and 4 which most of them were boys. Since the boys were getting big and a little bit tricky to manage, we were glad to have big brother Amad to accompany those boys.

We had distributed prizes after second quarter evaluation at the end of August 2017. Meanwhile some prizes for the 17th of August, the Indonesian Independence Day’s game competition were distributed in the beginning of September 2017.

We thank facilitators, volunteers and surrounding community who relentlessly gave their time, efforts, materials and place for this learning program.

We started handicraft program before holiday. For this program, we prepared some necessary materials.  Several Cakung’s and Sarang Tupai’s mothers and young girls participated in this program.

We also did outdoor activities for each facility. This time, we separated the Cakung’s and Sarang Tupai’s children according to their own community center.
This time, for the outdoor program, we went around Jakarta.

On Saturday, September 9th, 2017, Sarang Tupai’s children along with their parents went to the old town Jakarta and Monas, the national monument. The children were accompanied by big sister Rachel and Debby.

They went by hired taxi from the village of Sarang Tupai in Ciawi to Bogor train station and continued with commuter train to Jakarta.

Because the city hall was closed that day, we decided to climb up the national monument, Monas, before heading to the old town Jakarta.

We had lunch in the Monas Park before getting up to the monument. Over there, we met the family of big sister Rikah and big brother Aung.

Big sister Rikah and big brother Aung were both former Cakung facilitators in Cakung field area, the old premises. Later on, the center was forced to relocate due to the land’s foreclosure.

With big sister Rikah and her kids, we rode to the monument site with shuttle coach.

Children enjoyed this outdoor activity. They enjoyed going to the top of national monument, looked at array of historical independent day dioramas, and listened to Soekarno’s voice reading the declaration of independent.

From national monument we went to Fatahilah museum in Jakarta’s old town by Citytour shuttle bus. When we got there, the museum had already closed. We made the best of our time in the museum front yard by posing for pictures and shopping for goodies to take home.

In the afternoon, we walked to the near Kota train station riding back to Bogor train station.

Children were very happy with this tour.

On Saturday, 23rd September 2017, the Cakung’s children also visited the Jakarta city hall. This time the city hall was opened.

We attended a program organized by the Jakarta community of religious harmony. The theme for this year was the revival of Indonesia 2017.

Children from various religions and faiths attended this program. There were many activities such as cultural exhibitions, dances, games and group paintings.

Small children were accompanied by big sister Ari and Mrs Mar’ah. The bigger children from category 3 and 4 were accompanied by big brother Amad.

At national monument park, children also enjoyed dancing water fountain in the evening.

It was a memorable time for the children. They were very happy with this outing program.

We have reregistered the earlier year library collection. Up to the end of September 2017, we still registered some left over books into our library data based.

We appreciated the helps from library administrators for taking care of our library books.

In September, we also paid for children’s school fees. There were some children that we had to give several months, July’s to September’s school fees.  These children were busy with their school works.

Besides providing school fee and daily transportation,   we also provided the children with writing tablets, stationaries, and shoes.

We thanked our dearest friend who dedicate their financial resources for this scholarship program. Your financial assistance will have valuable impact for the future of these children.

Throughout September 2017, we prepared various healthy food such as cookies, watermelon, oranges, seafood fried noodle, banana cakes and steamed peanuts for Cakung’s and Sarang Tupai’s children.

We thanked Mrs Tjandra who provided us with various taste of cakes for Sarang Tupai’s children to enjoy after learning.

We also express our gratitude to the facilitators and the community of Cakung and Sarang Tupai who helped us with preparing healthy dishes throughout September 2017.

We held the Kartini basic food cooperative effort on Saturday in the first week of September 2017. The cooperative team did the inventories and filled them up before September 2017’s meeting.

As usual, each member held their duty such as collecting money for August’s payment, writing down shopping list and recording inventory.

Some mothers weighted rice and others served their customers.

The Kartini cooperative effort ran well. Some mothers were in need of money for their child’s wedding. So they halted their membership for a few months. We also gave back their initial investment.

We relentlessly urge the community to be in the cooperative. The cooperative could solve their basic monthly grocery needs.

We ask for your pray, so that this program will continue and will be beneficial to the community.
